Can't change email address, that address is already being used

  Dear WordPress,

  I am trying to change my primary email address on the account, however, when I try to save the settings, I get the message ‘can’t change email address, that address is already being used.’

  What am I doing wrong, and how can this be fixed?

  Hello Veronika,
  An email address can only be associated with one WordPress.com account. Either choose a different email address to use or log into that other WordPress.com account and change the email so it becomes available again.

  If you’re sure the email is not being used with a WordPress.com account, post the email address here (forum software will block it so only staff can read it) and add “modlook” to the tags for this thread. Doing so will alert a staff member that you need assistance with this issue.

  Thank you so much! This is now fixed!

  I did exactly what you said – checked by logging in with the other email. The strangest thing is, I don’t remember signing up with it, and the ‘username’ was a huuuugely long alphanumeric code that’s definitely nothing I created, but it responded to email password reset, and I was able to change it to an older email I no longer use, and then changed my actual one to the correct email.
