Can’t change email – says it’s already in use, but it isn’t on the account settings page.

I can’t update my email on the Account Settings page. It says it is already in use. But the one shown on that page is a different email I used to use. I have several WordPress sites not all of which are visible or active. But I have only one user name. It won’t let me do anything to add the new email. What should I do?

Hi there!
What’s the email address you’re trying to use? You can type it in its own line and it will be visible only to WordPress.com staff.
Have you tried to use that email address to log in?
If you have another account set up with that address, you’ll be able to access it and change the email to a different one, to free the desired one. If you don’t remember the password, you can reset it from
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpasswordAfter changing the email, you can delete the account. However, if you do it before changing the address, it will still appear as taken during the next 30 days until the account is purged.
I hope it makes sense :)
