Can't change Interface Language

  I tried to change the interface language to French (fr – français) at https://wordpress.com/me/account for testing purposes. As soon as I hit the “Save Account Settings” button, the whole screen resets and the drop down reverts to my old interface language.

  Can’t figure out if I am doing something wrong. I’ve restarted my browser with disabled addons but that didn’t help either.

  OS: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
  Browser: Firefox 40.0.3
  Cookies and Javascript enabled

  Hi Martin,

  When you check your account later, has the interface language changed? (That is, is the change just delayed?) Or does the interface language never change?

  I’m not sure what you mean by “later”, but I tested again now. What I did:

  • Open https://wordpress.com/me/account
  • Change Interface language to “fr – français”
  • Clicked the blue “Save Account Settings” button
  • Logged out
  • Closed the browser (which deletes cache & cookies)
  • Opened a new browser window & logged in
  • Interface language is still german “de – Deutsch”

  WAIT, just as I write this, the interface language indeed changes to french. Now that’s strange. Why does this take so long (> 5 min.)

  Changing the interface language in the classic dashboard via Users → Personal Settings → Interface language works instantly.

  Hi Martin,

  Sorry for being unclear earlier. What you described is what I suspected: the change doesn’t appear right away, but some minutes later you see the change on your account. I reported this issue to our team — I’m not sure yet why it happens, but I’ll let you know as soon as I have more information about it.

  Also, thank you for checking the setting under Users > Personal Settings. It helps to know that it works immediately there.

  Hi Martin,

  We tracked down and fixed the problem with changing the interface language in the account settings. I had the same issue, and it turns out it only affected those of us who spend time in the forums. :) If you have any more trouble with that, please let me know!
