Can’t change link/categories name

    Yesterday, I wanted to change the links part of the side of the page so it’s broken into two groups. So I created one called “General links I like,” and another called “Sports blogs I like.” That worked with no problem.

    However, it also changed the sports category name as well for when I post. So any new post under sports, I have to post it as “Sports blogs I like,” which is kind of silly if there’s no mention of other blogs in my post.

    I try to change it back under edit, then update category, but I keep getting a message that states “Category not updated.” I also can’t change back the links part either so it’s just sports.

    Does anyone know how I can get it back to the way it was?

    I had the same problem. In my case trying to update the “Journal” cat to “News”..

    Basically, from looking around phpMyAdmin, it seems that the tags and categories are both store in the “wp_terms” table in database. They are each assigned a term_id and then that term_id is matched to a term_taxonomy_id in the “wp_term_relationship” table. This id defines it’s role based on the taxonomy entry in “wp_taxonomy” table.

    Delete the news entry from the “wp_terms” table and you should be good to go. If anything, have a look around and find the conflict.
