Can't change my blog address back!

    Hello there,

Earlier this fall, I changed my blog from http://www.octoberdaniels.wordpress.com/ to http://www.nicotarquinio.wordpress.com/.

Doing so completely destroyed my traffic–where I was averaging 50-100 hits per day before the change, I shot right down to zero. I decided to change my address back.

After waiting a month for the blog address name change tool to be re-enabled, I ran into a weird error: when I attempt to change the address back, it says that the address is already in use.

It isn’t. When you type in the URL, this appears: “octoberdaniels.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this blog.”

How do I get my old address back?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your answer is found here (bold lettering provided by me)

    6. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

So I’m presuming I accidentally permanently disabled the former address? That stinks. Thanks for the help, all the same.

I don’t like being a bearer of bad tidings — no one does. I’m so sorry you did not read 6. in the documentation carefully. :(

Reading? On the internet? Surely, you jest.

But maybe you can help me figure out what to do now.

While I was waiting for the change blog URL tool to be re-enabled, I had created a new blog using my second-most desired URL, “octoberdanielsblog.wordpress.com”.

Now that it’s back, I figured I could simply delete that blog, NOT check the option to permanently delete the URL so it cannot be reused, and change my initial blog’s name to this second-most desired URL.

However, apparently, deleting the second blog would cause that URL to be lost forever. So I changed the URL without checking the box to something random. Then I went to change the URL of my primary blog to “octoberdanielsblog.wordpress.com” and, inexplicably, got the “Sorry, that site already exists!” error again.

Then I tried changing the newer, unused blog back to that URL, and whaddya know? Sorry, that site already exists!

Did I lose yet another URL?

When I used the “change blog address” tool, it explicitly provides a box with the option to discard/permanently disable the old address, and even provides: “If you think you will reuse this name keep this option unchecked.” So how do I reuse the name, then? Gah!

Disregard that–I came up with a better name for my primary blog. Thanks again for all your help!
