Can’t change my footer or edit/add widgets
-
Hi,
I change my theme and I’m not able to change the information in my footer area or find any widgets. How can I change this?
I used this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/edit-the-footer/#adding-content-to-your-footer
However, in my theme it doesn’t look like this and I can’t figure out how to change it.
Thank you!
Take care,

Hi there,
When changing your theme, sometimes the footer area and widgets may be structured differently or have different settings. Here are some steps to help you change the information in your footer area or find the widgets:
- Access Theme Customization: Depending on the platform or CMS (such as WordPress) you’re using, go to the theme customization area. This is usually found in the admin dashboard under “Appearance” or “Customize.”
- Look for Footer Settings: In the theme customization area, explore the available options and settings related to the footer. Look for sections or settings specifically related to the footer, such as “Footer,” “Footer Settings,” or “Widgets.”
- Configure Footer Widgets: If your new theme supports footer widgets, you may need to enable them and configure their content. Typically, you can add, remove, or rearrange widgets using a drag-and-drop interface or a list of available widget areas.
- Customize Footer Text/Content: If you want to change the text or content within the footer area itself, check if there are specific settings for it in the theme customization area. Look for fields or options related to the footer text, copyright information, or any other content you want to modify.
- Explore Additional Theme Options: Depending on your theme, there may be additional options or settings related to the footer area. Take the time to explore other sections within the theme customization area, such as typography, colors, or layout settings. These settings might indirectly affect the appearance or content within the footer area.
- Consult Theme Documentation or Support: If you’re unable to find the desired footer customization options or widgets, refer to the theme’s documentation or support resources. The documentation should provide guidance on how to customize the footer or make use of available widgets. If needed, reach out to the theme developer’s support team for further assistance.
Note that the availability and specific steps for changing the footer area and widgets can vary based on the theme you’re using. It’s crucial to refer to the theme-specific documentation or seek support from the theme developer if you encounter difficulties.
Remember to save your changes after customizing the footer area, and don’t forget to preview your website to ensure the modifications appear as desired before publishing them live.

hey, are you able to look at this specific issue though? It does seem like generic than usual.
when you click and find the footer, it contains nothing to ‘edit’ as if it’s not there?

I am having the same issue! I had to take down my site because I cannot get the default footer in TENAZ to edit. When I go in to edit my footer, the black block with the TENZ sample wording disappears and it appears I have eliminated it, but when I preview my site, the default footer with the theme jargon is still there. I am unable to access any other footers even though there are multiple choices listed. I do not have any additional widgets to consider either. I would be happy to completely eliminate the footer if that’s what it takes, but the editing profile does not allow me to change anything.
