Can’t change profile picture

Hello – I’m having trouble changing my profile picture. I’ve tried Chrome and Safari and still get an error message. I get the message prompt ‘hmm, your new profile photo was not saved. Please try uploading again.’ I’ve been trying for the last 5 days.

Can you upload the image you are trying to set to your media library here so we can take a closer look?
It can be possible the image itself has some issue with it, and we would like to take a closer look at it as well as try to update the image from our end to see if we get the same result.

Honestly, I’ve just been using random images from Unsplash to replace the rather dorky picture that’s there now. I even just tried to upload a picture of a black box and that didn’t even work.

Are you uploading the image at https://wordpress.com/me?
Please check if clearing your browser cache makes any difference.
If not, can you check if uploading it at https://en.gravatar.com/gravatars/new instead gives a different result? You can log into that site with your WordPress.com account.

I was, yes.
I tried re-linking to Gravatar (as I thought that was the problem), and then replacing the image and that worked! Thanks for the tip. I even found some other older profile pictures to delete.Thanks so much.
So if I delete my Gravatar profile AND my WordPress account, any and all profile pictures associated with my email should be wiped, correct?

Correct. By deleting your WordPress.com account, it also deletes your Gravatar account as well:

All profile images will be purged.
