Can't change text colour?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I changed my theme to Twenty Eleven and changed the colour of the background and headers, but WordPress won’t change the colour of my regular text on anything published before the change. Everything published since has the correct colour text, but why will it not change previously published text? I’ve gone into edit, selected different blocks and though it will give the block a background colour that I can change, it will not change the text colour no matter what I do. Why is this? I also tried going into the customizer to change the colour but changing text colour does not show as an option (some websites have shown WordPress with a Typography option in the customizer, but mine does not). So now I’m stuck with black text on a dark background on anything previously published, which makes it difficult to read. I want to change the text to white so it shows up against the dark background, but nothing I do works and I’m getting really frustrated. Please help.

    I did take a look on your site but can’t find a page or post with black text on a dark background. All your post and pages have white text on a dark background.

  • Hi there,

    Can you please give a link to the specific post/page on your site where the custom color option you chose does not appear?

    The background color of a WordPress site can be changed by modifying the CSS.

    Before making any changes to a WordPress theme, add a child theme.
    Log in to WordPress.
    Go to Appearance > Editor.
    Enter the CSS to change the background color. Below is sample code:

    .site {
    background-color: #XXXXXX;
    }
    .site is the css class for the whole site.
    XXXXXX is the hex code for the color you want to use.
    Click Update File.

    Here is one of the pages that showed up with dark text.

    The Past Five Months

  • Hi there!

    I had a look at your settings and noted that those previous posts that did not change the font color were written using the Classic Editor. I wonder if converting them to blocks would change anything. Would you give it a try?

    The theme Twenty Eleven was created long before the Block Editor, so it may not be working correctly.

    If you don’t want to edit each and every post, you may also try using a newer theme, for example, Twenty Twenty. You can try the themes without activating them by clicking on the three dots next to the theme’s name and choosing the option Try&Customize.

    This will allow you to see how the theme would look like with your content and how you could customize it.

    Thanks for your input.

    I have no problem going back and converting it all to blocks as long as it works. I did convert one post to blocks to change the colour of the text from black to white, but the text still shows up as black whenever I look at it.

    Here’s one I’m talking about: https://theintersectionofeverything.wordpress.com/2019/05/27/the-past-five-months/

    I don’t know if maybe it only shows up that way because I’m the administrator and that it might show up as white text to a regular reader, or if it looks that way to both me and the reader. If it’s just me, I don’t really care, but I want it to be readable for anyone who’s reading my blog.

    Also, I noticed some of my really, really old posts show up as white text on their own even though they were long before the new editor, then of course the newest posts show up as white, but the ones in the middle are black, which baffles me.

    Also, I generally write up a post on Microsoft Word and then copy and paste into WordPress, then edit on WordPress. Would copy and pasting from Word rather than typing the whole thing out on WordPress have an impact on this?
