can't change to single column width in Reddle

This is regarding my private blog, not the public one my name is linked to, but I don’t think that matters, it’s easy to describe the problem I’m having.

The specs on Reddle say it can have a single column width, but I can’t figure out how to do that, it’s not in the column of options when I click on “customize” . I did search in support and here for other threads on this, but couldn’t find anything that applied. A Support doc said to implement it in a dropdown for screen options at the top of the edit page but that didn’t work for me:

In my edit screen for pages only (not posts) a dropdown on the top called “screen options” lets me choose between one or two columns. But this only changes the edit/ composing screen, not the displayed page. – that is still two columns (sidebar in right column). And oddly, even after hitting update/save, when I return to that edit page screen, even the edit screen is two columns again, not one. All the options under screen options go back to the defaults, none are saved.

Anyway, I am at a loss as to how to get rid of my sidebar. I think I remember reading here sometime that with Reddle and other themes that support single or two columns, the homepage itself can’t go to single column width, but that posts or at least pages could.
I would really love to use the full width of the page for text and pics, don’t need that sidebar in a private blog.

    Thanks for any info.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To get rid of the sidebar on Reddle, you simply don’t add any widgets to Sidebars 1 & 2.
But this won’t make the main content column wider.

Thanks panos, – but is that what is meant by “single column”? – just not having anything in the sidebar area? I assumed a single column meant a wider content area, not just an empty sidebar – that’s still two columns to me, even if one is empty!

    You’re welcome.
    a) No widgets on Reddle doesn’t result in an empty sidebar, it results in no sidebar. Try it and you’ll see.
    b) The no sidebar option doesn’t have the same effect on all the themes that support it: in some cases the width of the theme remains the same and the main content becomes wider, in some cases the width of the theme remains the same and the main content remains the same, only centered, and in some cases the main content remains the same and the theme becomes narrower.
    c) For no sidebar with widened content, try Modularity Lite or Nishita instead of Reddle.

Thanks yet again! I will definitely try those themes out…
