Can’t change username due to email provider?

Hi there. Apologies if this has been covered recently but I didn’t find anything in searches. I’d like to change my login username. I’ve done this previously with no issues but this time it’s blocking my attempt to do with with a message that reads:
“You cannot use that email address to signup. We are having problems with them blocking some of our email. Please use another email provider.”
I’d not recently changed my registered email address, though I’ve done so now just in case that solved the problem. It didn’t. I’m not sure what this message is actually referring to, whether it’s a glitch, whether there is actually something wrong with the email addresses I’ve used (one linked from my long-time mail provider and the other using my blog’s own domain).
It’s not essential that I change the username so if it comes to it and I just can’t, I’ll live with it. But if anyone does have any thoughts or ideas I would appreciate it.

That message is very clear: your email provider blocks emails from wordpress.com and that’s why you can’t use the email address you are having with them over here on the wordpress.com platform.

It is clear, yes – except that, as I explained, I’ve been using the same email address for quite a long time now, and initially I hadn’t made any changes to the email address. It was the username I was trying to change, and it was under the username field that this message appeared.
I’ve since changed the email address as an experiment. WordPress has accepted the change to the email address. But a subsequent attempt to change the username again generates the error message under the username field.

Just get a reliable email address at gmail or Outlook and use that instead of your current unreliable email address.

I will close this thread as it seems I will not get any help here.
For the record, I will just reiterate that it was my username I was (and am) unable to change. WordPress raises and has raised no objection at all to my previous or my current email addresses, as I have clearly stated above.

I have a solution, or at least a workaround, in case anyone is having the same problem.
I was able to change my username by going to my Gravatar page and changing the personal URL there. This also changes the WordPress username to match, and it did not trigger the same error message.
