Can't close account

    Hi, I don’t have any blogs and never made any purchases and yet I can’t delete my account.

    I choose:

    Close your account permanently
    Close account
    Continue
    Confirm account closure

    Then I need to enter my username and I can only click Cancel. “Close your account” remains grayed out. I thought it could be related to the fact that the first letter of my username is in caps, but caps are not recognized in the field.

    Can anyone tell me what I’m missing here? Thanks

    I am seeing nothing under your account that would prevent you from closing it. Are you following the instructions to delete your account as described here?:

    Of course. The “Close your account” is just not clickable.

    Can you use a different browser than the one you tried. I logged into your account and the link appears clickable for me (using Chrome).

    If you still have trouble, could you let us know what operating system and browser (and versions of each) you’re using? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    I use Firefox and I tried in Chrome, of course, to no avail. I use the latest versions of everything (Firefox, Chrome and Windows 10).

  • Thanks for confirming. We are able to close this account on your behalf, and you have been very clear in this thread that you wish to do so. To be safe can you confirm once again that you understand that this will permanently close your account, which will remove your personal data from our service?

    Once I have your confirmation I will proceed to close your account, and you will be sent an email letting you know of this. If you opt to change your mind and reactivate (you have 30 days to decide) you can reply to that email to let us know.

  • Thanks, I have passed this on to our account’s team and we’ll let you know when we hear back (likely either confirmation that it has been canceled or that whatever was blocking you from doing it has been fixed).

    It appears the issue with your username being uppercase is an issue for us too. We’ve changed your username on our end to lempeadelete are you able to proceed with closing your account now that your name has changed.

    If you are unable to log in, you can send yourself a temporary password by entering lempeadelete here: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

    You can then choose the option to close your account at the bottom of this page: https://wordpress.com/me/account/
