Can’t close comments on my blog

Hello,
I have searched the forum but I don’t see the answer to my question. If I’m wrong and I’ve missed it somewhere, please do point me in the right direction.
I can’t seem to close comments on one of my blogs (I don’t want it to be an option to make any comments on any post in that blog). I have gone to Settings>Discussion and unchecked ‘Allow people to post comments on the article’, and saved changes, but it doesn’t seem to do the trick — there is still the option of comments on every post.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? How can I close comments for the entire blog?

This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

I would go back and change it so you can see which blog, but I can’t seem to go in and edit my original post…? -
The comments button will show up anyway, even if you’ve disabled comments. But your blog still allows comments, if it’s the one linked to your name.
To disallow comments on the entire blog, you need to go to Settings -> Discussion and uncheck “Allow people to post comments on the article “.

No, it’s another blog I’ve just set up (and forgot to point to when I started this thread — oops).
Ok, I had unchecked that box (‘Allow people to post comments…’) but I was confused because the comments box did still show. I thought it was still allowing comments. Thanks for explaining that it actually isn’t. :)

How about closing comments on a specific post? I hosted a giveaway that has now ended. I’d like to close the comments for just that post. I toggled the close comments after -blank- days and entered 4, but I’d prefer not to have to make such a broad stoke.

um… never mind. Figured it out about two seconds later. Sometimes you just need to write the problem down!
