can’t comment due to jetpack
-
I can’t comment anymore on other blogs. First the autofill, under site, had something with gravatar in the name. It wanted my old password from a shared wp site from years ago. So I gave it, I think.
I also tried to manually put in my new from yesterday wp.com blog account. that did not work. I also tried to go to jetpack since they were the problem, but they said I was not logged on. When I pressed log on, I got a red head and shoulders thing, above is this you, and when I clicked I think I got a password thingy.I have not been sent any password in my email.
I don’t care if I can only comment using my years old shared password, although I would prefer to use my new one from yesterday. And I want the site where I comment to send people to my new blog if they click on my name, not be sent to the shared one that nobody has used in years.

Hi there,
I’m a little confused here. Right now you are logged in as
seanslugand you can comment on other blogs using that account. Which account are you trying to access? -
I am trying to log into the comment section of the Whatever blog of sf novelist John Scalzi.
I was able to comment yesterday on Penelope Trunk’s blog, but this morning Scalzi’s was again a no-go.
As soon as I hit comment publish I got a wp page to use a password because the account seanslug was currently not logged in to wp. It printed my seanslug in the top box, the bottom was for typing in my password. I tried every password I have ever used, I think.
This is my second day of having a wp.com blog.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using, and the URL you’re trying to comment on, if you’re still having trouble.
-
I will e-mail you tomorrow regarding the steps above.
Meanwhile, I am using safari, I will walk-in to the Mac store tomorrow to do a cable upload, because at my house I can only upload using wi fi, but I think my safari is already up to date.
I will also ask if the Mac people can help me do browser stuff. I hope they do.
I don’t have any extra programs (are those add ons?) that I can recall. Only basic. I have never bought anything from the Mac store.I tried the web site comment again. This time I did NOT get the -gravatar- autofill on the third box, below email and name.
But I still could not comment. The URL I am trying is
https://whatever.scalzi.comI have no idea if this is relevant or not, but:
Before I got WP I could not comment on former WP team leader Scott Berkun’s blog. I would get a pop up above the website box saying I need to put in the URL. It did not help if I added Http and so forth. So I always e-mail Scott instead. (He knows my name) I do not have the nerve to ask him for any computer help, because he is a busy writer.I have a new month-old Mac computer, but I did data upload from my old one when I bought it.

When you’re on Jon Scalzi’s site, do you see the black WordPress.com admin bar at the top? If not, it means we’re not able to detect you as logged into your account.
Meanwhile, I am using safari
Open Safari preferences, and go to Privacy. If the option “Prevent cross-site tracking” is enabled, disable that.
Clear cookies, log back into your WordPress.com account, and then try commenting again.
Let me know if that works.
-
In order:
I disabled Prevent cross-tracking.
Using safari help, I could not find clear cookies, but I found the block cookies, so I did that.I logged on to my dashboard wp admin account.
Then I went to my desktop, and then clicked on John’s site.
There I saw the wp black bar, I don’t remember seeing it before, and I’ve been surfing his site for years. When I commented, there was something new: Under the fill-in boxes was seanslug: you are commenting using your wp.com account (logout/change)
My comment was successful! Hurray!
Now I am confident that if I experiment (but I won’t, I’m not a computer guy) I can get back to being able to comment again.
In the past I have surfed the net and commented without logging into my WP.com. It seems strange to have to log in before I go surf.
For Berkun’s blog, his black banner is only for his own contact stuff, no wp.
After I did the above, when I commented on his site,
I still got the pop-up “insert URL” but then I tried something new:
I just left the box blank. And that caused success!
But it just means no one can click on my comment name to see my blog anymore.
… Scot’s book about wp is real good, The Year Without Pants. -
Hey there,
but I found the block cookies, so I did that.
Actually can you undo that? The issue may be that cookies aren’t working.
And if you’ll let us know what version of Safari you’re using, you might not need to go in and have it updated. Are you in Safari 11 right now?
One more test: is it just this site giving you issues? For example, are you able to make a comment here?
https://wordpress.com/blog/ -
The issue is resolved;
I know because I commented OK on John’s blog.
Thank you all at WordPress.
I am writing from the Mac store where I just upgraded stuff. I am on safari 13.
