Can't comment on blogs

    When I log in to comment on posts here: http://mynintendonews.com, I get taken to another page with an error message saying I must be logged in to post a comment.
    I have tried commenting with Internet Explorer 11 and Opera 32.0 with the same result.

    I have contacted the blog and they said to talk to WordPress

    System specs:
    OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 10240) (10240.th1.150819-1946)
    MotherBoard: Gigabyte Z87X-UD5 TH
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4771
    Memory: 8GB RAM
    DirectX Version: 12
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

    Hi,

    Did you try clearing your cache and history before logging in to comment again?

    If not, please try if this works:
    1) Delete your cache and cookies from the browser.
    2) Log in to your WordPress account first.
    3) Visit the site and try commenting now. Should work. :)

    Do let me know if this fails to resolve the issue.

    Hi again,

    The site in question – mynintendonews.com runs on the WordPress.com platform, which means that, ideally, everyone with a WordPress.com account should be able to comment in it. I tried commenting on the site with my WordPress.com account; the comment was posted and I did not run into any error. Ideally, this should mean that all WordPress.com accounts should work, unless there’s some issue that’s preventing your from posting your comment to the site.

    So, could you please try and answer these questions for me?

    1) Which account were you using to comment on this site? Were you using a WordPress.com account (for instance, the ‘snugglevixen’ account with which you have posted this forum entry)? While trying to comment in a post in this site, did you find a message as seen in this screenshot, below the comment box (the blurred part is the username & gravatar – can you see that as well)? This site allows commenting only when the user has a registered WordPress.com account or social media accounts (Twitter or Facebook).

    2) If that is the case (i.e. you are logged in using your WordPress.com account), another possibility could be that you are facing an issue with your ISP – which has caused the issue. Can you try a different ISP (say, try commenting on your website from your mobile browser or a different PC?).

    Just tried on my new windows phone connected to the same router and it works, but not my desktop or laptop. I was on my laptop at my parents place when I first encountered the issue.
    Seems to be a problem with the desktop version of the site.

    There also seem to be a lot less comments on the site since they implemented the logged in requirement so it could be a common problem.

    No, I’m using Opera and IE. I can log in fine but on the comments section of blogs it will ask me to log in to WordPress, twitter or facebook, when I click WordPress it seems to log in correctly and enable the post button but the post button redirects me to the error. On my windows phone 8.1 (running IE 11 I think) it had me already logged in on the comment section.

    @snugglevixen: It seems the issue you are facing is more like a browser-related issue or an ISP issue.

    Also, did you face the issue while using Microsoft Edge (the browser that comes with windows 10, not IE)? Also, does it persist while you were trying to comment on other WordPress.com blogs?

    Just to confirm, could you please try a different browser, like Firefox or Google Chrome?

    Just checked and Edge is having the same problem.

    Works perfectly fine in Edge, IE and Firefox for me, but not in Chrome.

    I log in to comment on the MyNintendoNews, and it appears to log in just fine, but as a soon as I post the comment I get an error telling me “Sorry, you must be logged in to post a comment.”

    And every time I keep trying again, it automatically logs me back into wordpress, even though I don’t even have it set to do so. Google isn’t giving an answer, and it doesn’t appear WordPress knows what is going on either.

    So I’m forced to use another browser in order to comment on that site.
