Can't comment on blogs due to using WordPress.org not wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having a problem with the new commenting system. I have a website that runs from wordpress.org and I cannot currently comment on other wordpress sites with it now because it is somehow recognising that I use wordpress, however I can’t login using my regular name and password (for my wordpress.org site) because it’s attached to wordpress.com

I can’t use my wordpress.com account because it doesn’t link to my current domain name, only my old one.

    HELP?

    VERY frustrating. Any tips?

You should be able to log in using the gravatar account username/email address and password since that is associated with the email you want to use. Gravatar and wordpress.com usernames/emails/passwords are the same.

i am in the same boat, annette. i follow several wp.com sites, and my own is wp.org like you. normally i comment by just putting in my name/email/url and don’t have to be logged in to my blog to do so. but i am being prompted to log in to wp.com each time i want to comment on these several wp.com blogs. i know there are others having this issue, and i came here to find out how to help them fix it. ;) thinking that it is something to do with the wp.com blogs, and not my own… i haven’t heard from anyone that they are having trouble commenting on my wp.org site, so i think like you said it must have to do with the wp.com blogs.

my workaround for the time being is to login to wp.com, since i do have a login there, and i have my real blog linked in the solitary post there, in case anyone gets routed there by one of my comments.
    hth!

In your profile in your wordpress.com account, you can link your username to wherever you wish. Go to users > personal settings and put it in the “website” field under “account details.”

i see that there is a sticky post about the new comment system, here

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/recent-update-to-commenting?replies=4

i am thinking that the problem is happening if we try to use our email address if it’s tied to both a wp.com and a wp.org blog. i want to be able to opt out of logging into wp.com just because the email address i use for both blogs happens to be “tied” to my wp.com placeholder blog…. i don’t know if this makes any sense. i realize there are reasons to have a login prompt, but here is one reason not to.

aha… thanks thesacredpath. i still think it’s a bum deal that i have to login to the wp.com in order to comment. but at least it’ll link to the right place….. (gonna test this out)

if one had another email address, it seems like one could change that in the settings as well, and work around this problem. i hesitate to add yet another email address to my life for this! hmmm.

FYI for anyone who finds this helpful, the link above to the sticky post contains a link to have wordpress.com send you a new password, if you’ve forgotten yours and need to login to comment and/or to change your settings.

    Hi Earth Huggy!

Glad I’m not the only one with this issue. Since we are using wordpress.org it would be great for wordpress.com to recognise this and allow us to post without logging into wordpress.com when we don’t use it.

Seems like an oversight on their behalf, though I do see what sacred path is saying and I will update my settings – it is an annoyance for sure.

There is no way I’m logging in via Facebook or Twitter either when it wants you to let it post whatever it wants on your Fb or Twitter without you knowing – NO THANKS!
