CAN’T CONNECT

  • Unknown's avatar

I just created a new blog, but when I try to connect with a new post it says it can’t connect using the address I gave. What’s the problem?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there!

Can you please let us know more details about that?
Do you mean that you can’t log into the new account?
What’s the address of the new blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    hubersinethiopia.home.blog

When I try to get a preview of the post it says it can’t connect. Then when I try to see the home page it kicks me back to “start your blog” as though I need to start the whole process again. Its like Groundhog Day – I’m caught in a loop that never actually let’s me in.

  • Hi there,

That site is private, and does not belong to the account you’re using to post here.

If that is also your site, you need to log into the correct account in order to access it or make changes to it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I am making it private as it will be a blog for family and friends only. How does that change my access to it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Here’s the message I get when I try to post what I’ve got:

    Sharing the Journey

    An Ethiopian Partnership

Oops! That page can’t be found.
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

    Search for:
    Search …

Sharing the Journey, Blog at WordPress.com.

  • I am making it private as it will be a blog for family and friends only. How does that change my access to it?

The fact that the site is private does not change anything, but you must log in from the correct account.

I can see that you’ve set up your homepage to display a static page, the problem is, you’ve not chosen any and that’s why you’ll see the error that the page couldn’t be found.

Please go to My Site>Design>Customize>Homepage settings and either choose to display your latest post, or change the Homepage to one that you’ve already created.

    This should help.

So now I’m getting this message: This site is marked private by its owner. If you would like to view it, you’ll need two things:

A WordPress.com account. Don’t have an account? All you need is an email address and password — register here!
Permission from the site owner. Once you’ve created an account, log in and revisit this screen to request an invite.
If you already have both of these, great!

I’ve set up several WordPress sites and am currently running a news blog on it. I’ve never had such problems before. Don’t remember it being so complicated.

I just want to set up a simple attractive blog. Don’t quite understand what you’re saying about a static page, etc.

    Very confusing.

    Keeps happening . . .

  • If you wish to view https://hubersinethiopia.home.blog/ you absolutely must be logged in as rcahubers and not the other WordPress.com account.

If you are logged in as rcahubers and still seeing that message, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

OK, I just tried it on Explorer and it worked. The problem is clearly Chrome which is an issue as this is my preferred browser.

I’ll try updating the program now.

I’ve tried everything you’ve suggested with Chrome and nothing works. I keep getting this message:

Do you have any other advice? If not I’m looking for another option for my blog., as this is too frustrating.

  • As what WordPress.com username are you logged in in Chrome? You can check by going to https://wordpress.com/me/

Please go to http://supportdetails.com/ in Chrome, and take a screen shot of the information shown there. Upload that to the media library of one of your sites at My Site ->Site ->Media. Let us know to which site you uploaded it, so we can take a look.

I am logged in with the (email visible only to moderators and staff) address. Yet that’s the one that says that the “owner” of this site has made it private. I’m the owner!

    What’s up with this?

  • Good Morning –

Let’s start from the beginning. In the original post you made here, from the lstcccme user account, the message that you detailed for us was because you were not signed in to the correct account for working on hubersinethiopia.home.blog.

Now that you are signed in correctly as rcahubers you should be able to work on the site. Reading through the post it sounds like you were able to sign in correctly and view the site using Internet Explorer. Is that right? But, the issue persists when in Chrome?

Please go ahead and grab these details for us:

Please go to http://supportdetails.com/ in Chrome, and take a screen shot of the information shown there. Upload that to the media library of one of your sites at My Site ->Site ->Media. Let us know to which site you uploaded it, so we can take a look.

I would suggest deleting Chrome all together and starting over with a fresh installation. I do believe there is something involved at the browser level causing your trouble. Let me know if a fresh installation helps.

Thanks for your patience as this is understandably frustrating.

I’ve done everything you’ve suggested and nothing works. So I tried setting up a new gmail account to start from scratch. But now I get this notification which doesn’t allow me to go any further:

An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User.

So really this is the last straw. It was never this difficult before when I created a site. What have you done to make it so difficult!

This is what I continue to get even after deleting chrome and downloading it again. No matter what I do I get blocked from setting up this blog:

  • Thanks, we actually can’t access that. Try this though: can you open an incognito window in Chrome, log in as rcahubers, and see if you have the same issue? If you do, it’s an issue with Chrome itself, probably a setting. If not, it might be worth clearing cache or even the cookie for this site in Chrome with your regular window.
