Can't connect to site from wordpress.com & domain expired – pleas help

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
About 14 months ago I moved my blog from hamage.wordpress.com to being hosted on wordpress.org through TSO host. Foolishly, when the expiry warning email came for my blog, we thought it related to the old wordpress.com address and didn’t realise that there was a connection to the self-hosted blog because the domain name (thathappycertainty.com) was purchased through wordpress.com

The expiry has now happened and the site has gone down. Is there any way I can get the domain back and connect the site back again to my wordpress.com account, with all the data that was part of that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Aw, we’re so sorry about this! I have a Support documentation that you may want to check here.

I’ll also tag this as Modlook, so that staff could get a better look into your account and assist you further.

    Cheers!

Thanks so much for the reply alissonhz – I checked out that page on expiration. Any idea how to get the domain back once it’s in the redemption period?

I would love it if staff were able to advise how to get the domain back and how to connect it to the site.

When a domain expires, it then goes through a process that can take several months to complete described at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/.

If you are in the grace period you will not have to agree to pay a redemption fee set by the domain name registrar that wordpress.COM staff cannot waive.

Otherwise, if you want Staff to try to recover the domain for you then you will have to agree in advance to pay the redemption fee.

If you’re logged into the account that is associated with your expired domain, they will look up its status and get in touch with details.

If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into the associated account, and provide the domain URL here.

Thanks timethief. I am happy to pay any redemption fee if the WordPress staff can recover it. The domain is thathappycertainty.com
    Thank you 😊

  • Hi there,

I have renewed thathappycertainty.com for you and sent a manual payment your way. Everything should be set. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thank you darnelldibbles. I’ve now made the payment, and thank you for renewing thathappycertainty.com

My question/problem is now that the domain redirects to my original wordpress blog (hamage.wordpress.com). However in November 2016 I launched on wordpress.org with a site hosted by TSO host. This site was still connected to wordpress.com for subscribers and stats, etc.

But now when I go to my wordpress profile, there is only the original blog. I can’t see the new site which was connected to the site hosted at TSO host. Can I get this data back?

  • Hi there,

You will just need to point the nameservers of thathappycertainty.com from here over to your TSO host. Instructions on how to change your nameservers can be found here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/

From the TSO website, it appears that their nameservers are:

    ns1.tsohost.co.uk
    ns2.tsohost.co.uk
    ns3.tsohost.co.uk

I would contact them for any additional questions on what you need to do on their end.

    Thanks!

Thank you, I’ll look into that.

I was just confused because the new site used to show up as a separate site under the ‘Sites’ part of my wordpress.com profile. That was how I managed subscribers and stats. But it seems to have disappeared and now there is just the one site.

Won’t I need the new site to be there as a separate site in my wordpress profile?

  • I see what you mean. Let me take a look for you.

  • Okay, is the site that thathappycertainty.com was connected to over at the TSO still up and active? If not, I would get the site back up and active. Then, if it is not connected to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack plugin, I would reconnect it. I have connection information in the system, but it isn’t showing under your account. Once we get the Jetpack plugin back up and running for your site, your stats should show again. Then, all you will need to do is point the domain over to your site hosted at TSO with the instructions I provided previously.

Once you do that, let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for your help; much appreciated. I will have a look.

I’m not quite sure what I’m looking for within the TSO host Gridhost interface. I can’t see where the site (as it was) is. The http://thathappycertainty.com.gridhosted.co.uk address just takes me back to thathappycertainty.com as it now is, with the old wordpress.com blog before I hosted it there. Any thoughts? (I appreciate your responsibility is wordpress, rather than TSO host!)

Also, do I connect to jetpack via TSO host’s interface, or within the wordpress.com interface?

When attempting to change the nameservers, I am receiving an error “Uknown REST API HTTP code”

  • Hi there,

I checked your setting and the site and everything looks good from this end.

Here are instructions on installing Jetpack if you haven’t already:

    Jetpack

Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.

    Thanks!
