  Can you please try disabling all other plugins before connecting, to rule-out a plugin conflict?

  I deactivated all plug-ins. No change. I deactivated Jetpack and re-activated it. Still no change. (I’m using WP ver. 3.2.1)

  Them function can sometimes interfere similar to plugins. Can you please try with the Twenty Eleven theme temporarily enabled?

  I did so and still receive the same message. I’m not impressed with the Web Hosting company. Is it possible their system is somehow the problem?

  That is definitely a possibility. Would you mind asking them if they’re blocking access to xmlrpc.php files?
