Can’t copy URL using wp.me
-
Trying to use the Get Shortlink option under blog info.
When the dialogue box appears with the new URL, I hit Ctrl C but it copies “URL:” not the actual link.
Weird or what?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s unhandy, you have to manually highlight the text, then copy. It also allows you to change the short link (like tinyurl does) to get something that makes sense, such as wp.me/trythisout, but when you do that, the link you made doesn’t work. You can’t make your own short link as far as I can tell. So you are left with an alphabet soup of numbers and letters and hyphens etc, some in capitals, like
pcgF5-wW
This is something you can ONLY share by copy and paste, whereas you can tell a friend verbally or typed text to got to tinyurl.com/trythisout (one word), and there’s next to no chance it will go wrong. All my posts have short links like
tinyurl.com/BahaiEcumenics
which I can remember and tell people about, and they can see what the post is about just from the link.Tell me again what was so great about wp.me ?

I use bit.ly ordinarily but thought this wp.me was a great idea. Now, however, I haven’t been able to find the kinds of stats for these links that bit.ly offers. I’m sort of a stats junky, so unless someone can tell me how to access similar stats, I’m going back to bit.ly.
-
If you search the forum, you’ll see that bit.ly includes hits from bots and spiders, whereas if you read the comments on Matt’s post, you’ll see that WP.me doesn’t, it adds hits directly to your regular WP stats.
-
But it doesn’t say what country the hits are coming from ir whether they’re from Twitter or somewhere else, does it?
-
nancywisser, hits on wp,me links will show up in your regular WordPress stats, with all the regular info including the source. Not country.

-
http://www.clustrmaps.com/ is a good widget that shows what country hits are coming from
