Can’t Creat Categories

  I’m having trouble adding new categories for my blog. I’ve currently got 2, General and Blog Roll. I’m trying to add some more, and every time I try it doesn’t work.

  I type in the name I want for the category. Then I click “Add Category”, and all the happens is the name I typed in goes away. Nothing else. There might be something I’m doing wrong. Any support would be appreciated.

  First time I ear than; Why no try add categories at: Dashboard >> Manage >> Categories, that should work better.

  That’s where I’m trying to add them from. If I do it from the post page, I get the exact same result as before.

  The name you’ve typed goes, I believe, either to the head of the list or to its spot in alphabetical order. This can tend to give the “vanishing” effect as you’re posting. Have you checked for it once the post has gone up and not found it?

  I see at your blog, that you only have one post.
  Try to write a new post and put it in a new category.

  I had problems when I wanted to make categories for blogroll, I had do mark blogroll too, to get a new category visible, then unmark blogroll.

  What browser and version are you using? Please verify that javascript is activated for your browser as well.

  It’s a browser that came with my internet, which is Rogers Yahoo High Speed. (I’m from Canada) I think it’s a sort of modified version of IE, but I’m not 100% sure. I know Java Script works though.

  That’s strange. It’s come up in the past but I don’t think staff ever nailed it down.

  I’ll go ahead and add modlook to this thread. That’s what we’re doing for technical issues over the holiday to raise issues tot eh attention of the staff.

  If you would like, please add me to your blog as an admin (email – theapparatus ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com) and gie a list of categories and I can add them in for you. I’ll be online until about 6pm US eastern time today but will probably be off tomorrow.

  I would try another browser. If it has never been used here it would be very useful to do that.

  Feel free.

  If you go into your browser, you should be able to pull up a version number under Help -> About. It may be an older version but I believe all the modified version do is change the logo in the upper right for the most part. I used to hand out a modified version of Netscape many eons ago.

  Mark’s probably going to suggest upgrading to IE 7 if you can but I’ve used IE6 with making categories without an issue in the past. One of the schools I used to use for internet access was stuck on the 2180 version and I didn’t have much issue.

  Rogers may be blocking something also although that issue would have raised it’s head earlier. It happened in the past but I can’t find that thread right off. (Wasn’t it that school teacher?)

  Something you can try is adding teh categories on teh fly when you write a new Post. On the Write Post page, in the Categories box along the right hand side, there’s a form with a add button. You can try adding in a new category there. The only thing if that it will add in the category entered as to be with your new post.

  I tried doing it from the post screen, and got the exact same result.

  I just tried it in regular IE (Not Rogers version), and it worked fine for me. It’s probably just my browser. I’ll do it in there from now on. Thanks again.

  This is a long shot but it may be workable for you. How about using a free open source off-line editor like BlogDesk? You can change and add to your categories from it. http://www.blogdesk.org/en/index.htm

  One trick that worked for me when I had this problem (using IE6) was to post it like normal, without the categories, then go back and edit it; for some reason, the Add Categories box came up in Edit, but not in Write. Try that as a workaround.
