Can\'t create new blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Every time I try to create a new blog on the ”Create a Blog” tab nothing happens. It stays right there on same page. I located another create blog link and filled out all the information correctly several times and it always gives me an error saying ”Try again.” I cleared cookies and cache and forced refresh and no change.
    Blog url: http://buzzysforum.WordPress.com

    I believe the “try again” message indicates the URL you want to register is not available.

    Hi timethief and feartheseeds,

    Thank you very much for your feedback. I logged back in under my first and only blog I created with the url of belairforum. My intentions was to build one or two blogs within that blog as the tutorial on Lynda.com instructs. However, when I log in the only tabs I have are from L to R are: “Reader” “Notifications” “Stats” and “Create a Blog” It is not like any of the screens I see on the tutorial or the info you sent me. When I click on Create a Blog I go nowhere. There are links below that were there when I logged in with the headings of “ON WORDPRESS.COM.” “ALSO COOL” AND “ON OUR BLOG.” Also, I have never been able to find the page that lets you select blogs of interest to follow like “Art and Design” “Photography” etc. I did press the “Follow” button on other blogs but when I go the “Reader” all I get is a blank page. So I am a little befuddled to say the least. Maybe it is my PC. I do have a nice PC though (laptop)–HP with 2.66 GHz CPU, 512 MB dedicated video memory card, etc. Sorry so long. Thank you.

    ..I’ve never heard of Lynda before, but if you want to learn how to use WordPress you might as well start with the source:

    @belairforum – the Lynda.com WordPress tutorial is for setting up a self-hosted blog not one hosted on WordPress.com. Please read about the differences here:

    @feartheseeds – Lynda.com is a tutorial website.

    Hi feartheseeds and absurdoldbird,

    Thank you for the feedback. I will check into that learn.wordpress.com/ so thank you. Lynda.com has tutorials for both setting up a self-hosted blog and setting up on WordPress.com. I was watching the one that was for WordPress.com. I do know the difference. Self-hosting you control what goes on you blog but if you set up on WordPress.com you must abide by their rules and restrictions and no plug-ins, etc. I will check out learn.wordpress.com and try all over again. The reason I used Lynda.com is because I’m a visual learner and videos do well for me and can be less time consuming. Plus I paid them like 375.00 a year. ;-)~ So might as well use them. But, I must do what works here because I’m working on my senior project for my BS. Thank you very much again.

    @belairforum. My apologies, I hadn’t realised they did wordpress.com tutorials too.

    By the way, the learn.wordpress.com pages have video tutorials, so that should be helpful. (I’m also a visual learner).

    Hi absurdoIdbird, no need to apologize. Oh, that is cool, when I get the time tomorrow (today) I will check the tutorials about it. So you are a visual learner too. Cool. It’s like easier to learn when you can see and hear what’s going on. They say the more senses you use the better. This is my first time trying to blog and I’m looking forward to getting into it. It is also something I think I would like to do myself as opposed to a school project. Thank you once again and I appreciate your feedback very much.

    You’re welcome. I’ve been thinking about your problem though and I’m wondering if the info you’re being given on the lynda.com site is out of date, because there is constant change here on wordpress.com and recently in particular a lot has changed. For instance, the page you where you find “Reader” “Notifications” and “Stats” is the home page. This is newish development in which the staff here have moved a lot of the stuff that would previously have been on the dashboard to this one place.

    Something that might help is if you regularly read the wordpress.com blog (their own blog about new features, changes, etc) and look back a few weeks or months to see what is new, and then compare it to what you’re learning or have learnt on Lynda.com. This is the URL:

    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/

    There has been a recent chnage. The Topic page not longer has a tab like it did previously. We access it by first clicking into the Reader http://wordpress.com/#!/read/ Then we click “Explore Topicshttp://wordpress.com/#!/read/topics/ Note: Anyone whether or not they have WordPress.com blogs can also access the WordPress.com Topics pages by logging out of WordPress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

    Hi absurdoldbird and timethief, Thank you very much for your feedback again. @ absurdoldbird, I thought the same thing, that the Lynda.com vid was probably out of date. I’ve been busy and hadn’t had a chance to get back at WordPress until today. I will check out their tutorials and vids and I think I go along with the Lynda.com tut with what I know. After timethief said you can get to The Topic page through Reader I went to check it out and my Reader page was still blank. However, I found the menu on the WordPress icon “W” in the left upper corner and it had everything that I was looking for. It had a Create a Blog link and there it was, the page in the Lynda.com vid. When I press on the Tab on the home page nothing happens. Oh, well, I’ll get the hang of it. I really do appreciate both of your help. This is a friendly forum, but I don’t use many of them either. Thank you very much again.
