Can't Customize Theme

  I inherited our school’s PTO website. Every time I go to theme and click “customize” it takes me to a login screen and says my username and password are incorrect. Eventually I get locked out for 24 hours. It’s the exact same username and password I use to log into the WordPress Dashboard and I’ve checked multiple times to be sure I’m entering it right. I’ve made sure everything that can be updated is.

  Hi there,

  I can see your site is not hosted on WordPress.com and uses open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) and this forum is focused on sites hosted on WordPress.com.

  The WordPress.com and WordPress.org sites are completely different: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org

  In case the admin name or password doesn’t work, you can reset the password by clicking on the “Lost password” link.

  WordPress.com has no control over sites hosted elsewhere, so your hosting provider may be able to help you in this regard.

  I’m confused then, because I can only log-in through WordPress.com.

  It says we don’t have a WordPress.org account when I try to log in to there.

  And I can access the Dashboard and make changes through WordPress.com that show up live on our site. The only thing I can’t do is customize the theme.
