Can’t Delete Files

  – Files I delete are still on my blog.
  Dashboard > Manage > Uploads > File > Delete File
  – Typing the URL of a deleted file still brings up the file that is supposedly deleted.
  – I cannot upload a new file with the same file name.
  – Clicking on the new file brings up the old file.

  To remedy the situation I have
  – cleared my browser cache several times
  – logged in and logged out several times
  – accessed my blog both logged in and logged out

  This occurs with Images (png, jpg, gif) and PDF files.

  What can I do to delete a file?

  Yes, I’ve noticed that problem, too. It’s a minor pain.

  I’m not absolutely sure, but it might be something to do with WordPress storing files across a range of servers in different locations.

  That could cause a situation where you can remove the image file from one place, but it takes time to propagate that change across the whole network.

  This means that a request to load the old file will still succeed for a good while and prevent over-writing with a new version.

  The only temporary workaround I have found (and it’s not ideal, I agree) is to save the file with a different name (e.g. image.jpg : image2.jpg) and then upload again.

  If you can’t live with that new file name for the long-term, you might then be able to go back and re-upload the new file in a few hours’ time – although so far I haven’t beem motivated enough to prove that this would work.

  Yeah, the issue I’m facing is that I have multiple links pointing to the same files – changing the file name instantly corrupts those links.

  Uploading a new file name would require finding every link pointing to the same file and then changing that link as well.

  So if I understand correctly, Trent, having a deleted file show up via direct link after its been deleted in the Upload Manager is not normal behavior and we should contact staff or should we wait awhile, as energetic suggested, to see if it is purged by itself? I’ve got this happening as well with a picture. (FWIW-I dumped my browser cache to make sure it wasn’t being pulled up from there…)

  Hi Mark-sorry to advise that I can still directly access the deleted file. Even tried via that “other” web browser and it’s still there. :(

  still there-I’m at work and haven’t accessed this file previously from here, but just to be sure-I used that “other” browser.
