Can’t delete home page in Greenery theme when setting a static page as homepage

I have created a page called Bulletin where I want the blog, and a new page “Speakers”. I have not deleted “About” or “Home”, but then the latter is not listed as a page oddly enough on the Pages webpage.

In Reading Settings, I select static page, and the drop down box lists the three pages described above, but not “Home”. Set this to “About” and set posts page to “Bulletin”.

“Home” remains on the site, redundant. When I click “Bulletin”, both “Bulletin” and “Home” are highlighted on the menu bar. When I click “Home”, the site goes to “About” and “Home” is not shown as selected.

How do I get remove / delete “Home”? Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks Vivian. So I set the new “About” page to have the parent as “Speakers”. Sure enough, the site now has the main menu as “Home”, “Speakers” and “Bulletin”.

Clicking “Home” serves the “About” page, but the “Home” title in the menubar is not hightlighted when it is selected like “Speakers” and “Bulletin” are when they are selected.

Maybe Greenery and other themes with so-called hard-coded pages “home” links are just broken in this respect?!

I’m not following what you’ve done. Home takes me to your static About page – isn’t that what you want? As for the highlighting – I see each one highlighted. What browser are you using?

    – Home “is not listed as a page oddly enough on the Pages webpage”: that’s because it’s not a page but a navigation tab to take you back to your FRONT (whatever you’ve set that to be).

    – It’s hard-coded into some themes, as you say, so you cannot remove it.

    – And it’s not at all “broken”. it works alright, and I get the highlighting alright too, so it’s probably your browser, as Vivian says.

Ah, now I know what Home does and why I can’t edit it as a page. Thank you.

From a usability styling perspective then, it should behave the same as the other menu options by inversing (white font and green background) on selection, but it does not. It doesn’t do it for me in IE7 or the world’s finest browser, Firefox 3.05.

However, it does inverse on the /bulletin page, on which both “Home” and “Bulletin” are white font on green background. Again, this behaviour is consistent across both IE and Firefox.

Which browser / browser version are you guys using?

    Cheers.

“It should behave the same as the other menu options by inversing on selection”. As we said, in our computers it does. I’m using Firefox, Safari and Flock – on a Mac. Perhaps you should try logging out, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies, and restart. And note that IE is not one of the browsers WP recommends.

Thanks panaghiotisadam, but no change after clearing cache and cookies. (BTW, agree with you / WP about IE, but then I have worked for Mozilla for five years!)

Tested on both Firefox and IE and on two different machines now, and same problem. I’d love to know how come it behaves perfectly for you guys and not, so far, for me. I’ll consult one of my web dev friends to take a look at the CSS, but as I’m the other side of the world to my normal location, this will have to wait a week.

    Best, Philip.

P.S. Got your message about .org redirects. Fine by me :-)
