Can't delete old blog URL in Gravatar profile
-
I have an old, no-longer-working blog URL in my wordpress.com account (not hosted at wordpress.com). Therefore, when I try to go to “Edit my profile” I get the error about not getting into the database. All I want to do is delete this old blog URL and add another, so my Gravatar profile links to the new blog (also not hosted at wordpress.com). Yes I understand this site is for support of wordpress.com blogs, if I could just delete the account I would. But I can’t delete the account, and because it is linked to my Gravatar profile I am stuck with a bad link. What am I missing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog you specified at blog.jdwhitlock.net does not appear to be hosted at WordPress.com.
This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.
If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.
If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

Have you gone directly to the Gravatar site and tried to edit your account? I just checked mine there and I can edit this.

Thanks for the reply timethief. Yes, I can edit my Gravatar profile and have added the new blog URL the only place available, which is under “My Links.” However, it is still the old blog URL that is linked from from my name on my Gravatar profile when I leave a comment on another blog. I see no way in Gravatar profile UI to even see, let along delete, the old blog URL.

This is not retroactive but you can change the primary blog linked to your username. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

to be more specific, my jdwhitlock username on both Gravatar and WordPress.com currently links to blog.jdwhitlock.net, and i want it to link to jdwhitlock.net instead

Please read this and become aware of the differences between free hosted WordPress.com and self hosted WordPress.org installs. jdwhitlock.net is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog and you are posting to the wrong support forum for your software. The correct one is here > http://wordpress.org/support/

when i follow your directions on my new blog dashboard, it already has the right URL. i can’t get into the old blog (but that shouldn’t matter). how do i blast the old blog URL out of my wordpress.com account? because of my inability to “edit my profile” from wordpress.com, am i stuck in a weird situation that requires wordpress.com sysadmin access to kill the old blog URL?

i understand the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. i already changed my blog link on wordpress.org to the new blog, but that doesn’t help because the Gravatar profile is linked to wordpress.com, correct? If i could simply delete my wordpress.com account I would, but i can’t, right?

Username accounts cannot be deleted at WordPress.com. However, the gravatar site has this on it:
OK, but how do I contact support?

thanks I’ll try that, although I imagine they will point me back your way. in essence you are telling me I cannot delete my account, and at the same time i cannot fix broken data on my profile. kind of a catch-22, don’t you think?

You’re welcome. I hope you find a solution very soon. Having escaped death twice now I know how precious time and life are. That’s why I took this usernname long before the negative connotation was ascribed to it. :)
