Can’t download CSV of Subscribers
-
Hi – I’ve found the “Download Subscribers as CSV” button, but when I click it, I get “The webpage at https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=subscribers&blog=187081&blog_subscribers=csv&type=all might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.”
It doesn’t download a file.
I’ve tried on Firefox and Chrome, and so far all I can see is that we might have to “activate hosting” but then we lose our domain name, which feels…useless and dumb? Why would that even be a thing? Anyway, anyone have any ideas on how to download a subscriber csv, and why we’re paying $480/year to not be able to use any plugins or features without losing the domain name we’ve had for 20 years?
Thanks!

Hi there – thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue for you. I can confirm that you do not need to activate hosting features to use the “Download Subscribers as CSV” button. The reason for the error is because of the large volume of subscribers your site has – generating the list is timing out because of the size. We are looking into resolving that error so the button works for you going forward. In the meantime, I have sent you an email with the CSV file.
Regarding the domain name change, activating hosting features will not lose your domain, but it will change the address. The following information will help you make a decision on activating hosting features:
- Your site is not using a domain name – it’s using the default site address brevity.wordpress.com. With your plan, you can use a domain such as brevity.blog or brevity-blog.com without the .wordpress.com in the address, which is generally more favorable because your website can have its own identity without the WordPress.com branding.
- The change from brevity.wordpress.com to brevity.wpcomstaging.com is an expected part of the process of activating the hosting features to support the added features of plugins on the site. You don’t lose the domain, but it will change.
- After the address change, brevity.wordpress.com will continue to work, but redirect to the new address. Your visitors won’t experience an error. The brevity.wordpress.com address will redirect to brevity.wpcomstaging.com or the custom domain you add (such as brevity.blog or brevity-blog.com).
In summary, if you decide to activate the hosting features and make the most of your plan’s features, we recommend registering a domain such as brevity.blog or brevity-blog.com to use as the site’s primary address.
Please look out for my email, where we will continue to update you regarding the error with the “Download Subscribers as CSV” button.
