Can’t edit “About Page” it never appears in list of pages
-
All forums/support say that “About” page will appear as static pg. when I click on “pages” on left sidebar. Well, the “About” pg. never appears, anywhere. It’s such a simple thing; I don’t understand why this can’t be made more intuitive by WordPress. I’m using Fjords4 theme. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you’ve got an About page, it should show up when you click Pages>Edit in your dashboard sidebar. But there’s also a quirk in the theme you’re using: if you haven’t added any widgets to Sidebar 2 yourself, then the About displayed there is just the blog tagline: Settings>General.
(I can’t tell if that’s the case with your blog, since it’s private.)

Thank you, panag! The pg is now public. I reviewed the above link that you kindly included, but really couldn’t make heads nor tails of it. All I want to do is edit pre-existing “about” pg! Can u just tell me how, or if it’s imposs?
Thx! -
You’re welcome, but the blog is still set to private: I can’t really help if I can’t see it.

Every theme has a default display of seleceted widgets. The first time we move a single widget here > Appearance > Themes our choice will override the display tof widgets that appeared in default.
The solution is simple. Simply go here > Appearance > Themes and drag all the widgets you want to appear on your front page out of the Available widgets box and drop them into the Sidebars box(es). be sure to include the Pages widget so you have access to the static Pages and sub-pages.

NERTS! I typed “> Appearance > Themes ” above twice when I meant to types “> Appearance > Widgets”. Sorry :(

Thanks, but I’m still @ a los. Panag — I set the privacy settings to middle – no access by search eng and archivers, but yes to “normal visitors.” That’s the way it was earlier as well.
Timthief – Thanks, but when I went to appear/widgets — I saw a lot of stuff that’s already operating on my site, even though I never dragged it into boxes. Also, there was no “about” pg.I guess my blog doesn’t have to have an “about” pg, but this simply cannot be this difficult. It is nowhere to be seen. Pls let me know if u can see my blog.
Thx. -
Panag – think i found 1 problem. i have 2 blogs – 1 still set t private. I changed t primary blog on “personal settings” and changed the blog addr – can u see now? Thx

Yes I can see now, and it’s all as I had guessed and suggested:
• You don’t have a static page titled About (if you did, it would be under “Pages” in column 2).
• You haven’t added any widgets yourself, so the theme is displaying its default sidebar items.
• One of them is the misleadingly titled “About” in column 3, which is actually your blog’s tagline: edited (including deleting) under Settings>General.
• But this misleadingly titled thing is useless, since your tagline shows up under the blog title as well. So instead of editing it, you need to remove it.
• To change the contents of each sidebar, you need to go to Appearance>Widgets and add the widgets you really want: once you add any widget to a sidebar yourself, its previous default items vanish. To add a widget, you drag it from the list of available widgets into the Sidebar box till you see a dashed rectangle at the spot where it must land. (Sidebar 1 is open, Sidebars 2 and 3 must be opened by clicking on their title bar.) -
Thank you, Panag!
OK, we’re getting there. Last night (bef. I got yr answer) I fooled around w/widgets – dragged “pages” over to the sidebar; then ended up w/2 sets of pgs (in column 2, 3); did something w/”About” that caused it to appear i both columns, then somehow got it back to normal.OK, so I see that the column 3 “About” is just the tagline. But blogs almost all contain a click-through “about;” people have come to xpect. (I developed the pg “whys and wheretofores” to serve this purpose.) So is it imposs. for me to have a click through “about” since it’s not in widgets?
Also, I don’t see how to delete the tagline — even if I did, I wouldn’t want to delete from title — I like it just under the title; but, yr right, it doesn’t need t b repeated below!
So is there way to delete tagline (If “about” is never going to be a click-through) below w/o deleting above?
B/c of the deal w/changing prev. defaults, I’m kinda afraid to start moving widgets to sidebars. I just want to leave well-enough alone @ this point.
Is there any way to have a short bit of text appearing somewhere that explains what the blog is about that is always on 1st pg? I/o/w, even if my “about” worked as a click-through, I don’t want people t necess. have to click through to know what the blog is about, and the tagline is nice, but not long enough.
Suggestions?
Thanks so much! It’s so heartening to have your replies!

There’s no “normal”: each one of your sidebars can display whatever widgets you like, provided you add them yourself. The only difficulty is that you’ve got three sidebars, so you need to add widgets to all three of them. (Frankly, I don’t see why you chose that theme: things would be easier for you if you chose a 2-column theme: main column plus one sidebar.)
To delete the stupid redundant About=tagline, add a widget to Sidebar 2.
To display “a short bit of text that explains what the blog is about”, add a Text widget and write that bit of text in it.
If you want a clickable “About” tab, it has to be a (static) page: you can create one under Pages > Add New, or go to Pages > Edit and change the title of “whys and wheretofores” to “About”. To display static pages, you need to add the Pages widget.

Thank you, Panag. Yes; I had already made a new “about” pg, but then it didn’t have the same formatting (on the site; the font color, etc.) as the xisting “about,” but perhaps I can change that —
I have a deadline tom., so today I’m just going to focus on adding content —
One thing I wd like to do immed. is have people able to make site their home pg. Didn’t see widget for that . . .Thank you!
p.s. do u want me to give u some kind of nice mention on the site somewhere, as you’ve been a great help?
