Can't edit Appearance

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi folks,

My organization has a wordpress.com site that a former employee set up a long time ago. We have a login we use for it, but I’ve just gone to change some of the menus, sidebars and other items which would normally be in “Appearance” and the Appearance menu isn’t even appearing (ironically) in the Dashboard. Any ideas?

My best guess is that this isn’t the admin account, but a lower level editing account. If that’s the case, then our organization no longer has the login for the admin account. How would we go about re-setting that?

Background: We’re a small nonprofit doing cool things in Detroit. I’ve personally worked on a number of WordPress.org sites that I’ve set up in the past, but never on wordpress.com before.

    Thanks!
    Jacob

Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and associated email address.

Only the blog owner can either make your username account an Admin of the blog or transfer ownership of the blog to another username account http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Staff cannot just arbitrarily give you Admin status nor can they transfer the blog to you. Sorry.

This is in fact what has happened.

Since this is a sensitive topic, I’m going to move it out of the forums. Please look for a private e-mail from me with further instructions.
