Cant edit page — toolbars dont display, The connection to the server was reset

cant edit page
When I click on edit page I only get a blank screen in the box where the page content is supposed to be, and the toolbar buttons dont appear. If I roll over the editing box the page shows up in a pale blue color (although only as html code in the “visual” tabbed box). After about 30 seconds of trying to load I get the message “internet explorer cannot display the webpage”. If I edit a post as opposed to a page it works perfectly. Have had this problem for about a week now. If I try and edit in Mozilla I get the message “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading”. I am able to edit pages from my work computer as normally (problem is on home computer)The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Further to the above posts have now checked out the issue on multiple computers and with several ISPs. I can edit pages from my work computer, although from the time I click “edit” to the time the page has loaded and is ready for editing is around 62 seconds. I think this is just too long for my home ISP which does the “connection to server was reset” or something like that. So my question is how can I get my edit pages function to load more quickly

Hi there,
The page shouldn’t be taking that long to load. As a first step, can you make sure you’re running the latest version of Internet Explorer? You can find browser versions here:
Second, you mentioned you have tried this on multiple ISPs. Do you receive the same error on each one or is the problem localized only to a certain ISP?

am using IE9, but have tried IE11 and mozilla, same problem. I can edit at work (IE9) which is a different ISP (and ultrafast link) however the page takes around 62 seconds to load — I suspect this is the problem at home and that the server simply times out. Editing has never been fast but at least it used to work. I have a second small blog which I use as a sort of sandbox, hardly anything in it, but I have the same problem with that one — editing pages very slow to load then drop the link. The edit box seems to load the content, but then it takes ages for the rest of the page — ie all the buttons/editing tools etc that are on the edit page. No problems with bandwith etc at home which is all perfect for streaming video, skype etc.

Hey Ian,
That’s really odd. Even on a slow connection, the page should eventually load. Can you try disabling all of your browser add-ons to see if that helps? Your “Edit” page loads correctly on my side so I’m thinking this might be something within your browser that is slowing it down for one reason or another.

Well it seems it was an ISP/server issue as having left it alone for a few days it seems to work now.
Before closing this ticket can you offer me some advice about my page called “Individual Member Games” — seems I cant get this to load, this will be because over time it has just got too big I am sure (the html runs to 156 A4 pages when I open it in microsoft word). Is there a size limit to a web page that I am trying to exceed? Any tips as to how I could display this page (other than the obvious of breaking it up into smaller pages)? -
Hi Ian,
That’s very odd. Please let me know if you experience that issue again as we definitely try to keep tabs on ISP issues.
Regarding the page, the only way to fix the page loading issue would be to decrease the amount of content it has to load. You could try to separate the content into multiple pages following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/nextpage/
This would create a 1, 2, 3, etc page with the same URL rather than having a completely separate page. Would that work?
