can't embed anchor audio

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I am trying to embed audio from my Anchor station. If you’re not familiar with Anchor, it’s an app that allows you to create podcasts, and then gives you the embed code to put it on websites. Here is the embed code I’m using:

    https://anchor.fm/football-fanatic/episodes/c6ac8c/embed?at=718826

On a different website I own (jacobgallipeau.com/episodes) it works great. However, it won’t show up correctly on this WordPress site. Why not? How can I fix this?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is actually jacobgallipeaublog.wordpress.com

    Sorry about that.

    Hi There-

For security reasons, WordPress.com doesn’t allow any codes to be inserted such as iFrame. Since it’s a shared environment.

Here is some more info on why:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

However if you have a business plan, you are able to add plug-ins that might work.

    Hope this helps.

Is it possible to embed it with a link to the audio? Like this link?

    https://anchor.fm/football-fanatic/episodes/c6ac8c?at=718826

I’m trying to follow the instructions for that with [audio] or whatever and I can’t figure it out.

    Yes!

You can definitely embed audio with a link if it’s an .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, or .wav file. https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/ – or you can upload it directly if you have a Personal, Premium, or Business plan.

I’m trying as well to figure out how to access the direct .mp3 (or whatever format) link within the Anchor platform to see if I can get that working for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Awesome thank you! Yeah I don’t have the direct audio file, but I think you should be able to embed somehow with a link. Like I said, if you want to see what it SHOULD look like, check jacobgallipeau.com/episodes

This is a bit inelegant as a workaround, but I was able to find a link to the direct audio file in your page’s HTML. It looks like this:

    <meta name=”twitter:player:stream” content=”https://d3ctxlq1ktw2nl.cloudfront.net/production/2017-7-31/rDpKP2l78mfMLJYX4Sx0mT8kUeqKg0Gz.m4a”>

You can grab this URL, embed this file within your WordPress site directly with the following code, and it will show up with WordPress’s audio player:

    [embed]https://d3ctxlq1ktw2nl.cloudfront.net/production/2017-7-31/rDpKP2l78mfMLJYX4Sx0mT8kUeqKg0Gz.m4a[/embed]

I hope this helps; please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!

Wow. Interesting. Now I’ll have to figure out if listening from that audio player counts as a listen in the app. Thank you!

Also, how did you find that? So I can find them for my other podcast episodes.

Oh. Never mind, this doesn’t solve the problem.

Basically, how Anchor works is it lets you record multiple short segments (max of 5 minutes) and then upload them into a combined episode. The clip that you linked is just one short audio file from the whole episode.

    Hello @jgallipeau,

Oh bummer, I’m sorry that didn’t work as expected.

To answer your earlier question, I found it by searching the HTML of your Anchor.fm page’s source code in my web browser’s developer tools. The exact way to do this depends on your browser, but for instance, here’s what it looks like in Firefox: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Page_Inspector/How_to/Examine_and_edit_HTML It seems to be hiding under “twitter:player:stream” , so you could search for that. Without knowing a ton about the Anchor platform, my guess is that it would not count as a listen since you would most likely not be hitting whatever tracking code Anchor has created without their full embed.

Since this is not a perfect solution, I also wanted to mention that with a WordPress.com Business Plan, users have access to a broad range of plugins, and I expect there are third-party solutions that could take care of the full embed.

In the meantime I’ll sleuth for a better work-around…

    Awesome, thank you!

    You’re welcome!

One final thought: I don’t know whether Anchor allows you to download your media and upload full episodes. If it does, you could upload them to your media library and even create a playlist if you have a paid WordPress.com plan that comes with increased site storage space.

If you do end up deciding using a WordPress.com Business plan as your solution, the Embed.ly plugin seems to address the full-featured Anchor.fm embed issue and might be worth a try (although I haven’t tested it or used it myself). https://wordpress.com/plugins/embedly

Good luck with your site and your podcast!

    Hi Jacob.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this too, and found a solution.

I should say that I’m hosting my WP blog myself, but if you are WordPress-hosted (as it looks like you are), you would need to upgrade to a Business Plan, as it involves a plugin.

There’s a plugin I found called Code Embed by David Artiss. You can use that to quite neatly and easily embed any HTML or Javascript code in your blog with minimal fuss. That way you can take the embed code straight from Anchor and plug it right into your post without a problem. (This also has the advantage over Embed.ly that you don’t have to pay a second subscription, the way Embed.ly seems to want to make you!)

    Hope that’s some help.
