Embeds, javascript, flash, forms and iframes can’t be used with wordpress.com blogs for security reasons. You can probably use vodpod to post it. The information and much more is below:
-
It seems weak not to allow embedded code of “off-brand” videos (does everything have to be YouTube?) within a specific post (i.e. not within a widget). It was also frustrating that the support pages never just come out and say this. It took me some time to find out this answer (not to mention the time it took for me to realize that I wasn’t doing something wrong on my page).

You can use virtually any video around by using the vodpod button for wordpress: http://support.wordpress.com/videos/vodpod/ .
In my experience it works quite well and I’ve had very few problems with it.
-
And if you go here, http://support.wordpress.com/videos/ , and look in the “related” section in the blue at the right, it gives links to all the different video types that can be used here.

Thanks for the info. But, just to be clear, I’m interested in embedding video in the actual blog post, not via the sidebar widget (which vodpod is used for). If that is possible via the HTML tab when creating a post, I’d be interested in learning more. The support link was useful too. Thanks! :)

The vodpod button, and the procedure outlined in the wordpress support document I referenced is designed to allow you to put videos in the post and pages. The vodpod widget is something entirely different.
