Can't enable or disable comments

Since I didn’t see a trial version of WordPress.com, I’m testing it out to see if it meets my needs before moving forward with my website. But I’m noticing that I can’t turn off comments.
I want to turn off comments and reply options for the front static page, but not necessarily for the other posts. How do I do this on WordPress.COM?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Raincoaster, the instructions might work for a post. How can you turn off comments only on a static Homepage? My static Homepage will not have any posts on it, and so I want to turn off comments too.

I apologize, but I still can’t figure out how I can do that only for one page. When I am in edit for that page, I do not see a discussion module for only that page. I don’t see something that says “disable comments.”
If you can give more detailed instructions, that would be great. I have a brain injury and really need details when possible. thank you! -
The “discussion” module doesn’t show on the page editing page by default. With your static home page open in the editor, click on the “screen options” tab at upper right and check “discussion” and the module will appear down below the text edit area.

Easier and faster: Pages > All Pages, click Quick Edit under the page title, uncheck the option “Allow Comments”, click Update.

I tried all the things people have posted about – altering fields in the Comment section, Discussion section, and All Posts, but none of it works.
I’ve also tried five different themes – since people were stating that it may be theme related – but so far no luck. Is this something that WordPress needs to fix? At this point, I’m looking to move on to another web designing tool.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. In my brand new blog, the only page where people can make a comment is the About page. The two other posts has no comment box! I checked everything mentioned above and everything pertaining to “comments” is selected. Ideas?

Everything appropriate in Settings->Discussion seems to be checked. Is there something specific I need to look for?
