Can't even get to login page to login (problems after fail during upgrade of WP)

    Yesterday I was in the middle of automatically updating to the latest WordPress 3.4.1 and my internet crashed.

    Since then I can go to my blog and I can’t even get to the admin login page unless I use an alternate url (http://blog.jeremyrolleston.com/wp-login.php) vs (http://blog.jeremyrolleston.com/wp-admin). This is the case for both safari and firefox. The message I get is

    Firefox – \”The connection was reset.
    The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer\’s network
    connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.\”

    Safari – \”Safari can’t open the page “http://blog.jeremyrolleston.com/wp-admin/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.\”

    All server connections seem to be running fine from what I can tell. It seems hung because it got stopped in the middle of updating / downloading.

    And then this morning I tried it again and I get this message
    \”Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 262144 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 8192 bytes) in /home/jeremyr/public_html/blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4168\”

    When I go to wordpress forums to figure out the problem it appears one solution is increasing the memory to 64M in wp-settings.php. I tried this and I can\’t even get in to do it.

    I can access my general website (eg via http://www.jeremyrolleston.com/cms) but problem is blog specific. That is:
    via blog.jeremyrolleston/com/wp-admin pr wp-login.php it simply only loads a blank screen with no content or previously the error messages below.
    We have tried troubleshooting by testing with another Mac computer and also an iPad. The same result occurs on all three.

    What\’s the next step to take from here? The initial error occured after connection drop when the software was updating. What is the solution ?

    You are posting to the forum for the WordPress.com version of WordPress but your question is about a hoted blog using the WordPress.org version of the software.

    Ok. Thankyou. I have read the article and understand the difference now.
    But I still am left in a situation where I have no help and can’t even post my problem in wordpress. org. This sucks. I can’t believe it can be this hard.

    Do you have a paid help service ? Can you suggest how else I might be able to get a response to my question / problem ?

    Why can’t you post to the WordPress.org forum? You will have to register. The registration for WordPress.com does not apply to WordPress.org.

    I have also been successful on my self hosted sites by contacting my web host through their help forums.
