Can't Export Blog
-
I’ve been trying for almost 2 days to make an export file for my blog just to have a backup, but every time I try, it goes for awhile and then gives me a “Something has gone wrong with our servers.” message. I tried exporting in Firefox instead of Chrome, and it doesn’t even get to the “something went wrong” message, it just sits there and does nothing. Can anyone help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You may want to be sure your do not have a browser related issue.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. Try using another browser.
5. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -
I already tried all of those things in two separate browsers (Firefox and Chrome), neither works. I’m using my laptop to connect.
I’m currently using Chrome 29 and Firefox 23. The only error message I receive is the usual message in Chrome:
“Goshdarnit! Something has gone wrong with our servers. It’s probably Matt’s fault. We’ve just been notified of the problem. Hopefully this should be fixed ASAP, so kindly reload in a minute and things should be back to normal.”
It does this 2-3 minutes after I click ‘download export file’. It doesn’t matter if I refresh or go back and try again, it gives me the same message.
If I use Firefox, I don’t get any message – I click ‘download export file’ and nothing happens at all.

Please let me know which blog you are trying to export, and I will look into it for you.

Could you please try your export again? When I tested it, the export seemed to be functioning normally for your blog.
Please first try clearing your browser cache and logging out and back into WordPress.com just to be sure.

I just tried again in both Chrome and Firefox after clearing all private data again, and it gave me the same “something went wrong” message. I tried to export one of my other blogs after to see if that would work, the puddlejumperr.wordpress.com blog, and it worked fine and gave me an XML file. It’s just my first blog that won’t do it, it seems.

I have sent you an email with an export file link. Please check that and let me know if it isn’t working.
