Can't figure out how to make a site…AND…not have it go live before I like it
-
Hi. I’m new to WordPress. After two days of trying to figure out how to set up a website (or is it only a blog site) I am at a loss to figure anything out. 1. It appears I cannot put in my own photos? That is not possible, as you
say I can. How is that done? 2. Is there NO clicking and dragging? I am MacBook Pro. 3. Women Outward Bound, the site I have created, seems to be live….oh god!!! Is there no way to play with it before it goes live? Can I make it unlike for now? HELP HELP HELP!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Haven’t you used the step by step tutorial Staff have linked to the bottom of your Admin page? It’s very helpful and it’s at http://learn.wordpress.com

Set the whole blog to private temporarily here > Settings > Reading

I’ll try what you suggest. But I have NEVER done this before
and haven’t the faintest idea what I am doing. I was told this
would be easy. IKEA table construction isn’t easy for me.Mostly I want to put in my own photos, and I only see templates with other photos. Do I need to pay to put my own photos in? Where do I find that to buy?

Prior to uploading any image into your blog, regardless if it’s a header image, a featured image, an image in a post or page, in a Post format (Gallery or Image), an image for sidebar display in an image widget or a text widget, you can optimize and re-size it in either a desktop image editing software or online image editing software to fit the space you intend to use it in. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/26/cropper-or-proper-image-preparation-2/
These are the accepted file types:
.jpg/.jpeg
.gif
.pngYou can upload image files by clicking the Add Media button right above the editing area of a page or a post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/

You can edit any post or page and add images to it.

First things first. I DO NOT SEE HOW TO MAKE THIS PRIVATE UNTIL
I’VE FIGURED IT OUT. It is live and I don’t know what I’m doing!Who do I hire to do this for me????????

There is no upgrade involved here at all. There is common sense though and what we Volunteers note is that people assume they can upload a GIANT image straight off their camera into their blogs. Well, by analogy that would be akin to trying to park a Mac Truck and semi-trailer unit in a Vespa sized parking space. That is why I included the link to my post above on proper image preparation.
This is the link to the detailed theme description for the Yoko theme.

You do not need to hire anyone.
Read first http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Click this link http://womenoutwardbound.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
You arrive at Reading
scroll down to Site Visibility
and choose option 3 _ I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose
Then click “save changes”. -
Ok. I did the site visibility thing.
When do I get going making my site look the way I want it? -
I put in womenoutwardbound and it still comes up on line!
Do I kill myself now or later?
-
I don’t have a giant image. Just want to put in a photo.
You are an angel. I am 65, and don’t understand this.
I’m on Facebook, that was easy. -
Beginner bloggers fail to appreciate that each theme is uniquely designed. Rather than reading and comprehending how the theme is designed they erroneously assume they have a blank canvas and can drag and drop what they want where they want it to appear.

I am sorry but I cannot answer that as I don’t know what you want the site to appear like. I have no specifics and without them I’m sorry but I have no answers to provide.

I just looked to see if the site I selected supports my own photo.
It doesn’t. Where can I SEE simple sites that I can use that will support my own photo. Using just a name is ridiculous! -

Do I kill myself now or later?Your clear your browser cache and cookies as you are viewing a cached copy and the blog is private now. I checked and know that for a fact.

Your theme support a custom image header image
Images should be at least 1102 pixels wide. Suggested width is 1102 pixels. Suggested height is 350 pixels. It also supports images in every post and page and that’s just some of the locations as images can also be displayed in widgets.

How do I find a site like YOKO that can take my simple B&W photo?
What size is the photo?
-
-
I can cut it down to size, as needed. But it looked like I
could do that on the wordpress.com site. -
Okay then what you need to do is create an image that is 1102 pixels wide and 350 pixels in height first. You can do that here free of charge and easily http://www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx
Then you upload it to your computer. Lastly, you upload it to the blog here > Appearance > Header
