Can't figure out how to make my 2nd blog separate from first blog

  • Unknown's avatar

My first blog is musingsfromthedeskofmandysmith.com . I just created a new blog embracethefinalphaseoflive.wordpress.com. A WP engineer told me it would be completely separate from the first, yet I can’t seem to give it its own profile photo-avatar, or separate it from the first blog. It’s a completely different theme, so I don’t want them connected. When I check Domains, it shows they are both Primary Domains. When I go to Profile on my new blog it takes me to the Profile of the first blog/avatar and name of blog musingsfromthedeskofmandysmith.Hope you can help! Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

You seem to be a bit confused. Your profile photo is the photo linked to your account. Your account ‘musingsfromthedeskofmandysmith’ has 2 blogs.
Both blogs are independent but are linked to one profile. Both the blogs will have different theme, upgrade plan, blog posts, pages etc. Account settings like Profile photo, username etc. will be same for both.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi there,

A WP engineer told me it would be completely separate from the first, yet I can’t seem to give it its own profile photo-avatar

I can see two separate sites in your account:

    • musingsfromthedeskofmandysmith.wordpress.com
    • embracethefinalphaseoflife.wordpress.com

While the two sites function independently from each other, they are owned by one account — which is why they share the same profile photo.

Would you like to manage both sites from completely separate accounts? By that I mean, you would login to an account and only see one of the sites?

When I check Domains, it shows they are both Primary Domains.

That’s right — each site has a primary domain. The information you are seeing is the primary domain for each site in your account.

Let me know how you would like to manage the sites and we’ll go from there.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. Yes, I would like to operate each domain separately, meaning, I would like to be able to use a different username and avatar photo for each. I don’t want them linked to one profile.

    Separate accounts – Separate blogs

You log out, clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies, and then without logging in again, you register another username account under a different email address.

You log out, clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and log in under the old username account.

Then you add the new username account as an Admin https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/ to the blog you want to transfer to it.

Lastly, you transfer the blog to the new username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Note: Each username account requires a different email address, and you can have a different gravatar for each username account.

    Hi there,

I would like to be able to use a different username and avatar photo for each. I don’t want them linked to one profile.

Thanks for confirming. If you haven’t done so already, you will need to create a second account to manage the other site from. As @timethief mentioned, please log out of your current account before creating another.

Once you have two accounts, please let me know which account you would like to manage each site from and we can look at the next steps.

    Thanks!
