Can’t find a free option to launch my site. Why?
-
They seem to have recently removed a few steps from the previous 5 step “flow”
For me now it is:
“add new site”
“start now”
step 1 give your site an address.
I choose grrrr
I’m offered grrrr280927862.wordpress.com
I click on “select” and “start with free site”
the next page has a”Launch site” button. Job done. -
Okay, I haven’t tried that way, not recently anyway. Where’s your “add new site” link? For new sites, and I’ve created three today so I could document the steps, I always start at a theme demo. So the path is theme demo > Use this theme (button) > New Blog (button), which brings you to the Create a site page where you > enter the domain name > free site, “Select” button > “Start with a free site” (link) > Launch Site (button)…
The “Start with a free site” link creates the free site, and you can go to work building it, customizing it, etc. However, if you choose to launch the site, there are two more hurdles to navigate in order to obtain a free AND launched site. So the path continues…
Launch Site (button) > “Skip Purchase” (link) > “Continue with your free site” (link). I count eight steps in this procedure.

But it’s still six steps if I start at the Create a Site page, or seven steps if you include the link to that page:
- link to Create a site page
- Enter domain name
- free site, “Select” (button)
- “Start with a free site” (link)
- Launch Site (button)
- “Skip Purchase” (link)
- “Continue with your free site” (link)
-
The launch process alone is three steps. When you click “Launch Site,” the first page you come to is numbered “Step 1 of 3” in the upper right corner.
