How can I create an excerpt for my posts?

  Hi,
  I’m trying to automatically excerpt my blog posts. I followed the instructions, clicking on ‘excerpt’ in the ‘screen options’ drop down menu. But it doesn’t show up anywhere on the screen afterwards, and I haven’t found it in any of the menus in the left hand column. Can you help me find it, and excerpt my posts?

  The Excerpt module on your Add or Edit Post page is actually used for RSS feeds, search results, and a handful of other functions:
