Can’t find my blog on Google or WordPress!
-
I registered my new WordPress blog several days ago and have been painstakingly exporting content from a Blogspot blog with the same name. But a Google Search only turns up the “old” (though still active) blog, not the new WordPress blog, though it too is registered and active. Even an internal WordPress.com search under “Pop with a Shotgun” does not return my blog. What gives?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a bit complex – I hope the more experienced folks will drop by – but you are moving a blog – this gives you duplicate content – search engines don’t like to see the same content on more than one URL – it can also take 4 to 6 weeks for a new blog / URL to get indexed by Google and others. Traffic can be a problem while the search engines learn that you have a new site. Not exactly sure what to advise you about your old site.
Will Blogspot allow some sort of redirect?

Register and verify the new site with the search engines.

A few comments.
Since the URLs at blogger and wordpress are different, doing a redirect globally is kind of difficult. If blogger offered a redirect where you could take your visitors from ANY old link to your new blog here, that would get you part way there, but the visitor would still have to look around to find what they originally came there for.
As auxclass says, it can take 4-6 weeks for a new blog to show up on Google, but typically it happens within a couple weeks. You can speed the process up somewhat by verifying your blog with Google webmaster tools. WordPress makes is quite simple.

The search here takes a few days to pick up new blogs, but it will pick yours up.
Duplicate content can definitely be an issue, and if possible it would be good to make the blogger blog “private” or whatever they call it as soon as possible so the search engines don’t find the duplicate content.
The think is, you will be starting at zero with your blog here as far as search engine ranking, and since there is no easy redirect from blogger to wordpress that I know of, it is going to be difficult. You might want to “un-publish” all the posts at blogger and then leave one last blog post informing people you have moved and give them the URL of your new blog.
