Can’t find my DSN

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I have been trying to find my DNS as I need and it seems impossible. When I get to the page with my wordpress name (domain) I can only see that it’s active but there is a lock. I can’t see any numbers. I followed the steps with Where can I find DNS settings? and still not able to see anything.

Is this a new thing as I was able before?

    Thank you for your support,

    Anne

Hello @albwellness! I’ll be happy to help you with this.

I understand you’re trying to manage the DNS records for a domain but are having trouble finding where to do that, right? I checked your account and noticed that you don’t currently have any custom domains connected to it, which is why the option to manage DNS records isn’t available.

Could you please share the domain name you’re trying to edit and a bit more detail about what you’d like to achieve by updating the DNS records? Once I have that information, I’ll be in a better position to guide you further.

I’m actually redirecting from wordpress to my website with Simvoly. I have never had any problems before but I don’t understand what has happened as all the information I once had in the domain section is not there and not available anywhere. I need to add a subdomain in a membership as I was told since it is redirected a domain name is not possible. This is why I need the DNS numbers.

Not sure this will help but thanks for trying.

It seems like I need to pay (I’m on the free one) if I want help and be able to see the domain. Is this true?

again: what is the URL of the site you are talking about as the account you are logged in to doesn’t have a custom domain.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi again @albwellness,

We appreciate you sharing this additional information!

For us to best look into this with you, could you share the domain you’re referring to? Since we can’t locate it in your current account, it’s possible that it’s associated with another WordPress.com account instead.

That being said, sharing the domain with us will help us further look into this with you.

    Thank you!

I assume you are really talking about annelbeaulieu.com You’ll need to log in to your other account to reach that site.

  • Unknown's avatar

Perhaps you are actually talking about annelbeaulieu.com

You reach that via your other account with the username Annelbeaulieu

  • Unknown's avatar

the domain I need help with is this one: annelbeaulieucom.wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

That site has no content. It is a free site hosted at WordPress.com and the address cannot be moved to another company.,

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I know it’s a free site with not contente. I don’t want to move it I’ve been redirecting to another website for more than 4 years now. I just want my DNS numbers. I used to have access to them but now I can’t see them anywhere.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for the info, @albwellness! Since annelbeaulieucom.wordpress.com is a free WordPress.com site address, you won’t have access to DNS records as they’re only available for custom domains.

Just to make sure I understand, are you trying to redirect your WordPress.com site address to another site, or are you trying to do something different? If it’s the first, you can set up a site redirect using this guide:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/site-redirect/

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to help!

Thanks for the information. I am already redirecting it to another website on Simvoly. What I don’t understand is that this has been the case since the beginning and I used to have access to the DNS. I am building a membership and I need to add a subdomain for a personal link. They are asking for my DNS numbers to validate my link. I’m completely loss as to why I don’t have access anymore because nothing has changed in my procedure. Sure seems that WordPress has changed though!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Again: you never had access to the DNS-settings on a free wordpress.com website.

  • Unknown's avatar

    You’re welcome, @albwellness!

Just to make sure we’re not missing anything, could you be referring to the custom domain annelbeaulieu.com? I noticed that this domain used to be linked to your WordPress.com account, but it seems to have been moved to another account. That’s why you might no longer see DNS access there.

The free WordPress.com site address (annelbeaulieucom.wordpress.com) doesn’t have DNS access, so you won’t be able to access the DNS records for it.

Could you confirm if annelbeaulieu.com is the custom domain you mean?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes that is the domain I bought through wordpress in 2019 – annelbeaulieu.com

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for confirming, @albwellness! If you’re trying to access the DNS records for that domain, you’ll need to log out of your current session and log in with the correct account linked to that domain.

If you don’t remember the email associated with your other account, you can try our account recovery method by following this guide:
