Can’t find my website

  • Unknown's avatar

I got ‘migrated’ by my host and when the wordpress log in came up I must have done something wrong (since I didn’t make the site) and now I’m out in the cold because the gal who made the site isn’t around and I don’t know how to recover it – I don’t have any of the ‘activiation’ proof they ask for.

Hi there, I don’t see any WordPress.com hosted sites associated with your username. Can we have a link to the site you are wanting help with please?

Hi, I got in but it’s not my website that I had. It’s belasbandb.com I did recover the source code from a cached google source. Does that help?

  • That domain has never been connected to any site on WordPress.com.

It looks like you’ve had a self-hosted site using the open source WordPress software with that domain. We have no control over those types of WordPress sites, and none of your site’s data has ever been on our servers, so we cannot help you with this.

You can find the password reset instructions for your version of WordPress here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

And general support can be found here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

But this sounds like an issue you need to sort out with your hosting provider directly, as they’re the only ones who possibly have the files for your site that you’re missing.

Yeah, I couldn’t because you have to “authenticate” your site and somebody else did it for me so I had no way to do that. I did, however, manage to find a cached version and get the source code for it, so that might work. I don’t know what a self-hosted site is – I paid over $100 a year at ixwebhosting.com which maybe went out of business or who knows why they migrated me to the lamentable site5 service which wants $140 a year!

A self-hosted site, as we refer to them here, is a site that is not hosted here at WordPress.com, but on a different hosting service and using the software from WordPress.org.

When I put http://belasbandb.com into my browser it redirects to http://belasbandb.com/wordpress/.

Doing a who is lookup, it appears your site is hosted at http://www.ixwebhosting.com/. I would contact them to see if they can help with recovering the login information for you.

Yes, they sold out to Site5 who migrated me. They fixed the problem – recovered the website, thank goodness. It took three three-hour “chats” and a tweet to get them to do something. I will migrate to WordPress as a host I believe. Who needs this? Thanks for the help.

  • I’m glad you were able to get your site back.
