Can’t find my WordPress.com domain to update DNS
-
I bought a .com domain through WordPress.com a while ago and later connected it to another site builder. Now I want to use the same domain on a Readymag site instead.
Readymag provided an A record and TXT record to add, and the previous platform gave me an authorization code, but I don’t want to transfer the domain registration – I just want to update the DNS so the domain points to Readymag while keeping it registered with WordPress.com.
The problem is that when I log into WordPress.com, I can’t find the domain in my dashboard. Under Upgrades → Domains it only shows my free
*.wordpress.comaddress, and the domain management page just asks me to transfer or find a domain.I do have an email confirmation from WordPress.com saying the domain purchase was successful, but it doesn’t appear under Purchases or in the domain management area.
Has anyone experienced this or know how I can access the domain settings to update the DNS records?

The reason you cannot see your domain in the Upgrades → Domains section, despite having a confirmation email, is almost certainly due to an Account Mismatch where the domain is registered under a different email address than the one you are currently using to log in. To resolve this and point your domain to Readymag without a full transfer, you must first log out and sign back in using the exact email address that received the original purchase receipt; once in the correct account, you can navigate to the DNS Records section to add the A and TXT records provided by Readymag while keeping WordPress.com as your registrar. If you no longer have access to that original email, your “Golden Ticket” for recovery is the Transaction ID (found on your bank statement as “WPCHRG” or “Automattic”), which you can submit via the WordPress.com Account Recovery Form to have the domain manually moved to your active account so you can update your DNS settings immediately.
