Cant find website/cant log in

  Hello! One of my students wanted to change the URL to the website, so they somehow tried changing it to merrimacknews.com. I’m not sure what they did because now merrimacknewspaper cannot be found and I can’t use or log in as an administrator to use http://www.merrimacknewspaper.com/wp-admin to try to fix whatever he did.

  What you described wouldn’t be possible on WordPress.com,so we are not able to help here.

  Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so we can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

  We are using wordpress.com. I’m referring to the website Merrimacknewspaper.com. One of my students–via the wordpress.com admin dashboard–changed the name to merrimacknews.com thinking that’s all he would have to do and of course that is wrong.

  But now we can’t even log in via our normal pathway: http://www.merrimacknewspaper.com/wp-admin (Username: Merrimack) to fix this.

  When I type in merrimacknewspaper.com it is automatically reverting to merrimacknews.com, which of course leads to an error message saying “this site can’t be reached.”

  (please ignore the http://patlawlormerrimack.wordpress.com/ thing, that’s still randomly connected to our wordpress account and I don’t know how to separate it off)

  Hi @thebeaconmerrimack,

  When I visit https://merrimacknewspaper.com/ it takes me to the site shown in this screenshot:

  

  It looks like the site is working now, however it’s currently hosted on Siteground, and not WordPress.com: https://gwhois.org/merrimacknewspaper.com+dns

  However, the domain is still registered on WordPress.com.

  If you’re having technical issues with the site, you have a couple of options:

  * Update your domain nameserver to point back to WordPress.com by going to Upgrades → Domains
  * Contact Siteground for support with your site
