Can’t get a pdf file to insert itself into post from media library…
-
I load the pdf into the library, then I click on ‘insert into post’. Everytime I try, the page displays a link but the link leads to a 404 page. What am I doing wrong?

The source code of your post shows an “http” without the rest of the URL. My guess is that you clicked the link button and forgot to add the file URL.
In order to avoid messing up the code, best delete the file title you’ve got in your post, click the Add Media button, click Media Library, click Show for the uploaded pdf, click File URL, click Insert into Post, click Update Post.

Thank you soooo much! And maybe WordPress could make the whole process a little more idiot proof. Just saying.

Truth is uploading files isn’t the smoothest thing in wp – and they keep changing how things work.
Let me review how you should normally upload and insert a pdf: click Add Media, click Select files, select; once “crunching” is over, click File URL (if the URL doesn’t show up), click Insert into Post.
Note that the uploader will now remember your preference, so you won’t have to click File URL again next time you upload something.

i am still confused by all this. it seems that the system for doing this changed with the upgrade to the new wordpress. i used to be able to do this easily. but now when i go to the media library there is no http or url address for my pdf file. so how can i get it so that i can insert it into my post?
