    Thanks very much Timethief. But I still have the problem of my pics appearing giant–but-only-the left side, even if I accidentally get one to load – is there a simple instruction to get it uploaded, and secondly, how can i get the size to normal ? it would be great if u can help me with this – i’m trying to get my ads up as i eagerly seek a new job.
    Thanks!

    I’m afraid if the instructions in the FAQs is all I have to offer. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/16/how-do-i-upload-pictures/

    Personally, I upload my photos to photobucket.com (I know some hate ’em, but I’ve never had a problem). You can choose the max upload size. I generally upload one copy at 1 MB (so it generally uploads full size) and one at website/email size (320×240). I put the smaller one on the blog and then link the photo to the full size. It’s a bit friendlier for the folks on dial-up.

    Alternatively, you can resize them locally before uploading them. The GIMP (there are binaries for Windows/Linux/Mac) will do that and a whole lot more, plus it’s free.

    thanks katm and Timethief, i didn’t know i had to physically resize them – i think that’s what u mean – i’ll try it tomorrow, as i’m bushed at midnight here!
    Thanks again!

    {waving to katm}

    You’re welcome. I pre-size all my images using microsoft paint. The size maximum image sizes that will not break your layout are found in this thread http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/

    As katm suggests though it’s not a good idea to place lots on large images in your blog. You should keep readers on dial-up service in mind. Every large image slows page loading time. The most sensible way to proceed is to use thumbnails or smaller images linked to the fullsize one. That way page loading time is not slowed down and each reader can choose whether or not to click on the smaller image to see it full sized.

    You’re very welcome. Sleep well and tackle your images tomorrow :)

    I’ll give the reason I like the GIMP over Paint (which works as well). In The GIMP, you can resize to a certain pixel value. And when you adjust the height, it automatically adjusts the width (and vise versa) to keep them at a constant ratio. I’ve seen in Paint where you can adjust the size via percentages (just choose for example 50% for both height and width) or by pixel/actual size (but they’re not locked if you adjust height, you’ve got to manually adjust the width as well).
