Can't get alt txt to work in sidebar

    I just put some icons up in my sidebar for; FaceBook, RSS, and Email. I used a text box and have tried hosting the images on my own site, and also directly on WordPress. I can’t seem to get the alt txt to work. I have tried everything I can think of. Here is my code for my RSS button:

    The buttons show up but not the alt txt. It is driving me nuts.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
