Can't get Excerpts to work

    Happy Memorial Day. I’m a newbie with WordPress and now I’m stuck on Excerpts.

    I’m using version 4.7.5 with the BlogKori theme and want to have a different text on the homepage that links to the post—sort of an introduction—and don’t understand why I can’t just add it to the top of the post and insert a Read More icon below it. Everything I’ve read says use Excerpt.

    Got the excerpt screen open, but can’t get it to do what I want. Most forums suggest altering the code, which spooks me because I’m not the least bit inclined to programming. Is there some other way to get it to work without messing with the code? Or even without messing with Excerpts?

    Sounds like your above site is using the standalone WP (org) software.

    Standalone WP (org) and WordPressdotcom (where we are) are different entities with different documentation and support forums; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
