Can't get large featured image on Twenty Eleven showcase
-
Hi,
I am trying to use the showcase template of Twenty Eleven to have a large featured image on my home page. I’ve been blogging with the Duster theme for some time now and have had no problems getting a large featured image to work. But I’m new to Twenty Eleven and I must be missing something.
I have used a huge image file, (on the home page it is the image titled “Tabatha”), and I have gone into Media settings and set my max width and height for large images to 1024 x 3000px. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Large images on featured “sticky” posts … To add posts to the Featured Post section just mark some posts as sticky. To have a big featured image you need to use an image that is at least as big as the header image (1000px x 288px). Also, make sure you have a set size for Large image under Settings → Media that allows for such sizes. Adding more than one sticky post will add slider controls to the top right of the featured post area.

I just removed my other sticky post. Now there is only one, but still no large image. I’ve done all the other steps.. any more ideas?

I’m all out of ideas. I will flag this thread so it gets moved to the Themes Forum. the Themes Staff do monitor threads in that forum and will reply to you there.

The image has to be landscaped shaped? Man that’s a huge bummer. Duster used to just take a slice right out of the middle of the photo.. I really liked that look.
Oh well I guess. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help – decided to switch over to Linen instead.
Good to know that I should stick with Duster and not update to Twenty Eleven for femmeonamission.com if I want to keep the featured image style that I like.
Thanks again for your efforts!

To be more precise, for Featured Images to appear in a Twenty Eleven post header they need to be at least as large as the header image area, 1000 pixels by 288 pixels. Twenty Eleven will still take a slice out of larger images.

Themeshaper: That’s what I was hoping for/expecting and that is exactly what was not working. My image was plenty large enough, yet it was not taking a slice.
It’s no longer an issue because I switched to Linen, but I am curious if you have any ideas as to why that was not working? As I said above, I have another site (http://femmeonamission.com) that is using the Duster theme and now I am hesitant to update to Twenty Eleven.
Any ideas as to why my featured images weren’t working? Also, if I update my other blog to Twenty Eleven, will I be able to go back to Duster if I don’t like it? When I was looking through themes the other day, Duster was absent. I am worried that I will switch to Twenty Eleven, the featured images won’t work properly, and then I won’t be able to switch back to Duster. Thoughts?
Thanks for your help!
