Can’t get MP3 file on separate website to load in my blog
-
Hi jmacg.
Vivian’s “if you are not hosted here at wordpress.COM, the instructions you read don’t apply to you” is not criticism, it’s just the reason non-wp.com bloggers shouldn’t post here.
Your nick links to your wp.org blog, so how did you expect us to imagine you also have another one? Only staff can see your other blogs – we’re just fellow members volunteering.
Anyway, the point is you must rename your mp3 so that it contains no spaces or punctuation and reupload it.
-
I don’t listen to music on my blog, but I have to say that this is another interesting thread.
-
I’ve made changes as per suggestions above and it’s still not working. First of all, I changed the filename so that there were no spaces in it.
Then I’ve entered the url several different ways and none of them work:
(a) [audio http://www.ngaiopress.com/goldminermusic.mp3%5D
(b) audio http://www.ngaiopress.com/goldminermusic.mp3 {i.e. no square brackets]
If I use option (a), the HTML reads: Goldminer music
When I save the result and try to play the MP3 from my blogsite, I get the following error message:
————————
Not Found
The requested URL /goldminermusic.mp3 was not found on this server.Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at http://www.ngaiopress.com Port 80
———————–If I use option (b) I have more success. This time the music plays, but it downloads first (rather than streams), then uses my computer’s player, rather than the little player that’s supposed to show up on the WordPress page. I’m wondering if that little player only turns up if you pay WordPress for the ‘extra’ audio option. Is this the case, or should I be seeing that player, even though I’m getting the music from another website?

More again. I don’t know what panaghiotisadam means when s/he says: “Your nick links to your wp.org blog, so how did you expect us to imagine you also have another one? Only staff can see your other blogs – we’re just fellow members volunteering.”
As far as I know, my blog has nothing to do with WP.org. I signed up at WP.com, and my blog address is clearly wp.com: https://jmacg.wordpress.com/
Where’s the org in that?
Also, I only have one blog. At wordpress.com.
I want to sort this out in case I need to come back to this forum again. I don’t want people suggesting I’m a bludging intruder.

You must definitely be doing something wrong. I use this code in my blog and it worked
[audio http://www.ngaiopress.com/goldminermusic.mp3]There are two editor modes when writing a post. RTE (Rich Text Editor) and HTML Editor. I only use the HTML Editor mode so I honestly wouldn’t know if typing the above code in RTE mode would make a difference (meaning that it may be the reason why it doesn’t work).
Try typing the code in HTML mode, see if it works.
-
I’ve found the RTE to be problematic with the audio and video shortcodes in the past. Sometimes it works fine pasting a shortcode into it and sometimes it does not.
My suggestion is to do as devblog suggests and paste the code into the HTML editor. That has always worked for me.

Thanks Devblog – putting that line directly in the HTML fixed the issue and I’m getting the player now.
I’d still like to know why I’m appearing to people as coming from WordPress.org instead of WordPress.com
-
@jmacg: What I meant is that your nick doesn’t link to your wp.com blog but to this (perhaps you’d like to change it):
I mistakenly assumed it’s a wp.org blog, but the point is we couldn’t find your wp.com blog without a link to it. Staff has access to your dashboard – we don’t.
-
Thanks, panaghiotisadam, for that advice. I hadn’t realised that it was my blogsite address that went in the ‘website’ field. It would help if they called it blogsite instead of website.
I have changed it to jmacg.wordpress.com and save it, but so far the search field at the top of this page is not seeing ‘jmacg’. Hopefully it will see it in due course, but I’d have thought would be instantaneous.
