can't get my widgets to show on my page – changed theme- now that won't update??

  I could not get the widgets to show on responsive – no matter what I did, so then I thought I’d change the theme, now that won’t change ??? I’m absolutely at a loss. I’ve watched videos, gone to documents for help etc. All I want is the Responsive page with the 4 widgets on the bottom ??? So then I changed the theme (which didn’t update) so then I changed it back to responsive – this is going on 2 days now :(
